It appears the Toronto Blue Jays’ bats have gotten going.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Blue Jays defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-3 to even up the series at 1-1. The Jays’ record now sits at 10-8, making them second in the American League East. Let’s take a look at what happened in this game!
It was the Braves that opened the scoring in the game, as Austin Riely hit his third home run of the series in the top of the first to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. However, the Jays evened up the game in the bottom of the third as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit into a fielder’s choice.
The Blue Jays took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth. First up was Alan Roden’s first big league home run, a homer that nearly went 400 feet with an exit velocity of 106.4 mph off the bat.
Three batters later, after Bo Bichette and Guerrero Jr. reached, Anthony Santander hit his second home run as a Blue Jay, and his first in a Blue Jays uniform at Rogers Centre.
The Braves scored two more runs, one in the top of the sixth and one in the top of the ninth, both solo home runs. However, it wasn’t enough as the Blue Jays took this one 6-3.

Takeaways…

Kevin Gausman threw another quality start, pitching six innings with six hits allowed, two solo home runs, and six strikeouts to bring his season ERA to 2.49. The Jays’ bullpen had a good day as well, as Mason Fluharty, Nick Sandlin, Brendon Little, and Chad Green combined for three innings pitched with one earned run allowed.
Although the Jays only had six hits, four of them were of the extra-base variety. Alan Roden and Bo Bichette each hit a double, while Roden and Anthony Santander hit home runs. It was the first time this season the Blue Jays hit two home runs in the same game.
The Jays have a chance to win the series on Wednesday, as the two teams play the rubber match on Wednesday at 1:07 PM ET. Chris Bassitt is the expected starter for the Jays while Spencer Strider pitches in a game in the first time since April 5, 2024.
