The Toronto Blue Jays have won another series.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Blue Jays defeated the Atlanta Braves 3-1, winning the series two games to one and moving their season record to 11-8. Let’s take a look at what happened in the game!
The Jays got the scoring going in the bottom of the third. Bo Bichette led off the inning with his seventh double of the season and then was cashed in by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
That wasn’t Guerrero Jr.’s only RBI from Wednesday’s game, as he also hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth to give the Blue Jays an insurance run for the 2-0 lead. Bichette is the only Blue Jays batter in the top third of the lineup who doesn’t have a home run now.
With that being said, that doesn’t mean Bichette isn’t having a good start to his season. The shortstop hit his eighth double of the season in the bottom of the seventh, cashing in Myles Straw for the Jays’ third run of the game. Toronto’s shutout bid was broken up in the top of the ninth as Drake Baldwin hit his first big league home run.

Takeaways…

Blue Jays starting pitching remains strong this season, as Chris Bassitt pitched five innings, giving up three hits, two walks, and striking out 10 to drop his season ERA to 0.77. So far this season, Bassitt has a 33.3 K% – his career-best K% is 25%.
Speaking of strikeouts, the Blue Jays broke a franchise record for most strikeouts in a nine-inning game, with the team registering 19 in this game. For context, the league record for most strikeouts in a nine-inning game is 20, set by several teams.
Brendon Little struck out three in his inning of work, Nick Sandlin struck out one in an inning and a third, and Yimi García struck out all four batters he faced. Closer Jeff Hoffman picked up his fourth save of the season, striking out a batter to end the game.
Myles Straw continues to show that he deserves a spot on the Jays’ 26-man roster. He didn’t register a hit in this game, but drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh, stole second base, and scored on Bo Bichette’s second double of the game.
George Springer appeared in this game, filling in as a defensive replacement in right field in the top of the ninth inning. The Jays have missed his bat over the past few games, hopefully, he’s back in the lineup sooner rather than later.
Unfortunately, there’s no game on Thursday, but the Jays return to action on Friday, hosting the Seattle Mariners for a three-game series.
