The Toronto Blue Jays’ win streak is now at nine games.
On Monday evening, the Toronto Blue Jays started a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox, defeating the bottom-dwelling team 8-4 to move to 53-38. They are now three and a half games up for the division lead. Let’s take a look at what happened in the game!
For the third consecutive game, the opposing team opened the scoring. This time, Brooks Baldwin hit an RBI single to drive in Kyle Teel. Realistically, this run shouldn’t have happened, given the batter before should’ve been out on strikes.
The Jays finally found the tying run in the top of the fourth, as Bo Bichette hit an RBI single to tie the game at one. In the top of the fifth, Joey Loperfido hit his first home run of the season to give the Jays a 2-1 lead, a lead they’d never relinquish.
It helps that the next batter, Nathan Lukes, hit a no-doubter for his fifth home run of the season. The outfielder had a nice little bat flip; you love to see it.
The home run party didn’t stop there, as Addison Barger hit his 12th home run of the season in the top of the sixth, a two-run blast which gave the Jays a 5-1 lead. Loperfido hit a two-RBI single that inning, and Lukes hit a sacrifice bunt to score the eighth run.
In the bottom of the seventh and the bottom of the eighth, the White Sox combined for three runs, and even threatened for a few more in the bottom of the ninth. However, the Jays were able to hold on to win.

Takeaways…

The Blue Jays’ win streak has now reached nine games. In recent times, I’ve mentioned the 2015 season quite a lot in recent times, and that’s because this season has a different feeling to it, sort of like 2015. Well, what turned the 2015 season around was an 11-game win streak. The 2025 Blue Jays’ win streak of nine is their longest win streak in a decade.
Per Sportsnet’s Jamie Campbell, this was the first time since 2021 that the Blue Jays’ three starting outfielders all went deep. Funnily enough, that came in a stretch where a Blue Jay was named the American League Player of the Week three consecutive weeks.
Those three outfielders are Addison Barger, Joey Loperfido, and Nathan Lukes. Starting with Barger, he’s the real deal, and he hit his 12th home run of the season to give the Blue Jays a 5-1 lead. He’s now tied for second on the team. If Loperfido starts to break out, the Jays are in fantastic shape heading into the trade deadline and beyond. Lukes in the lead-off spot has been a nice development. Remember when the Jays desperately needed a left-handed batting outfielder with power?
José Berríos made the start, going six innings with one earned run allowed, as well as four strikeouts and two walks. He was taken out on just 76 pitches as he’ll have another start before the All-Star break.
Entering the game for Berríos was Robinson Piña to make his Blue Jays debut. It wasn’t great, as he gave up three runs (one earned) in an inning and a third. He left the game with runners on the corners and one out.
Thankfully, Nick Sandlin was able to get the final two outs with a strikeout and a pop-up. Chad Green pitched the bottom of the ninth, giving up a couple of hits but not allowing a run for the win.
The Blue Jays have a chance to push their win streak to double-digits, as they’ll hunt for the series victory on Tuesday with a start time of 7:40 PM ET. Chris Bassitt gets the start.
