The 2025 Arizona Fall League rosters were revealed on Wednesday, with prospects from all 30 teams attending the post-regular-season showcase.
The Toronto Blue Jays are sending seven prospects to Arizona, including a trio of top 30 prospects per MLB Pipeline: infielder Josh Kasevich (No. 13), catcher Edward Duran (No. 14) and right-hander Angel Bastardo (No. 30). Others include fellow righties Chay Yeager, Alex Amalfi and Yondrei Rojas and left-hander Kai Peterson.
All players will represent the Glendale Desert Dogs, who’ll be managed by Eric Duncan, the organization’s position player development director.
Kasevich, who’s Rule 5-eligible this winter, is among the notable Blue Jays prospects attending this year’s AFL. He’s missed most of this season due to injury, enduring a delayed start to the minor-league season after suffering a stress reaction in his back during spring training.
In 18 games at triple-A, the 24-year-old shortstop has struggled mightily at the plate, hitting .150/.278/.150 with zero extra-base hits and two RBIs, earning a measly 31 wRC+ (100 league average). But he hasn’t lost anything in the field, committing just one error across nearly 100 innings at short. He’s also split time at third, making six of his 17 defensive starts at the hot corner.
Duran, the top catcher in Toronto’s system, is another notable attendee. Acquired from the Miami Marlins as a player to be named later in a deal that also included Anthony Bass and Zach Pop, the 21-year-old backstop — also Rule 5-eligible this off-season — opened the ’25 campaign at single-A Dunedin, impressing to a .296/.378/.439 clip with five home runs, 35 RBIs and a 131 wRC+ over 66 games.
Since joining high-A Vancouver in July, Duran’s offensive results have taken a step back against improved competition, resulting in a .230/.329/.336 slash line and 90 wRC+ across 34 games. But he has displayed quality plate discipline, walking 11.4 per cent of the time and striking out in less than 20 per cent of his at-bats.
Bastardo, a Rule 5 waiver claim last fall, will make his Blue Jays organization debut when he makes his first AFL appearance. He’s been sidelined all season while recovering from Tommy John surgery and hasn’t pitched since 2024, making 10 double-A starts with the Boston Red Sox organization.
You’ll notice this list doesn’t include rehabbing left-hander Ricky Tiedemann, who underwent Tommy John surgery last season. The 23-year-old, who’s another Rule 5 candidate, has been up to 95 m.p.h. with his fastball while throwing on flat ground and was scheduled to progress to live bullpen sessions in July.
But his omission from the AFL roster likely signals we won’t see him back in a competitive setting until 2026.
