Toronto Blue Jays’ ace starting pitcher, Kevin Gausman, continues to impress and make a major impact for the club. His consistency has been key for the club, along with his durability to go out and get deep into games when it’s his turn on the mound. Gausman has become the saviour of the pitching staff and will remain a crucial piece throughout the season.
The Blue Jays’ power right-hander added five more innings of strong work on the mound at Rogers Centre, helping the club beat the Miami Marlins to earn the series win.
He allowed just one run on six hits while striking out two and walking five in front of a sold-out home crowd. Although he didn’t earn the win, he put the team in a position to eventually take and hold the lead. The Blue Jays secured a 2-1 victory over the Miami Marlins, with Jeff Hoffman earning the win.
Gausman has been a consistent competitor in the rotation and has proven to be the club’s most reliable starter. His role has become even more important as the fate of the Blue Jays’ pitching staff has taken a dramatic turn for the worse. Key additions for 2026, such as Cody Ponce and Dylan Cease, have been sidelined, along with José Berríos, Tommy Nance, Bowden Francis, and Shane Bieber.
Needless to say, when the bowling pins fall, Gausman is usually the one still standing strong. He has become the saviour of this team as the club continues battling injuries while competing in baseball’s toughest division.

Kevin Gausman is the team’s saviour and the leader of the rotation

There is no doubt that Gausman has been there through both the highs and lows, and he is usually the pitcher who keeps the club competitive. Through 12 starts this season, he owns a 4-3 record with a 3.23 ERA across 64 innings pitched and has accumulated 1.5 WAR.
We’ve seen several dominant outings from the right-hander, including his performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 23, when he threw 6 2/3 strong innings. Gausman allowed one run on six hits while walking one and striking out eight in a big win.
Before that, he tossed six strong innings against the Detroit Tigers, striking out five while allowing no earned runs. His overall performance has been more than satisfactory, making him both valuable and dependable in the rotation.
Gausman currently owns a 3.9% walk rate, his lowest since 2022. The same can be said for his hard-hit percentage, which sits at 35.5%. His ground-ball rate is at 39.8%, as he continues to induce weak groundouts and rollover contact, while also holding a 59.4% air-ball rate.
The Blue Jays’ veteran starter has become the main stabilizing force on the mound for Toronto. The club relies heavily on his performances, and he has consistently kept them competitive in tight games. His effectiveness and consistency have made him the saviour of the pitching staff, especially with so many injuries affecting the rotation. Toronto will continue to depend on him to lead the staff and hopefully help guide the club toward postseason contention.
