Do you want the good news or the bad news first? It’s probably best to get the bad stuff out of the way quickly, so let’s start there.

Nate Pearson, who was finally making his Single-A Dunedin debut, took a comebacker off of his elbow and was forced to leave the game. There’s no official report on what the injury is, but the tweet below suggests he’s broken his ulna, which could result in him missing six or more weeks. After a ridiculously good season in 2017 after being selected, Pearson hasn’t been able to catch a break in what was expected to be his breakout season.

That really sucks, so let’s get to some more positive stuff to lighten the mood.

Call up Vlad? Call up Bo and Vlad? How about call up Sean Reid-Foley? After a disappointing 2017 season, Reid-Foley has been excellent in his second stint in Double-A and has re-established himself as one of Toronto’s top pitching prospects. Reid-Foley has a 1.83 ERA through six starts this season (34 1.3 innings). He’s struck out 39 batters and he’s walked just 12. Baseball America did a post on Reid-Foley’s early-season breakout:

“Better fastball command,” New Hampshire manager John Schneider said of the difference in Reid-Foley from 2017 to 2018. “We’ve been really stressing keeping the ball down—down and away in safe zones to righties and lefties. He had a great fastball today and his breaking ball has been consistent, both slider and curve. So I think that’s been the biggest difference, if you look at fastball command. Then he’s always had a good breaking ball, and I think just having it be more consistent for him this year has been big for him.”
