The Buffalo Bisons have just three games remaining in their season after their 4-1 defeat on Thursday.
Taking on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Buffalo Bisons fell 4-1 to bring their second-half record to 31-40. This is the second-worst record in the International League East and the third worst record in the 20-team International League.
The Yankees’ affiliate scored first, as Caleb Durbin drove in a run on a single to make it 1-0. In the top of the fifth, T.J. Rumfield hit his 14th home run at the level to make it 2-0, this happened to be the game-winning run.
Toronto scored their only run in the next half-inning, as Riley Tirotta hit a triple that scored Damiano Palmegiani. However, Ben Rice’s 10th home run in Triple-A scored two insurance runs for the RailRiders, giving them a 4-1 lead.
Diving into the stats…
This was Paolo Espino’s last start of the season, and potentially his last start in the Blue Jays affiliate. Overall, it was solid, as he finished with a line of 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K to bring his season ERA to 4.88. Nick Robertson made his organizational debut, giving up a hit in what was a scoreless inning.
Braydon Fisher, the relief prospect the Jays received from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Cavan Biggio, allowed three walks and two earned runs in an inning of work. Moreover, Brett de Geus struck out a batter in his scoreless inning of work.
The Bisons totaled six hits in the game, with two of them being hit by Alan Roden. He hit his 15th double in Triple-A, as well as his 26th of the season. However, Roden was added to the 7-day Injured List on Friday, meaning his season is over unless he’s named to the Blue Jays’ Arizona Fall League team.
Riley Tirotta had the Bisons’ other extra-base hit, his first triple in Triple-A and his second of the season. Other players with a hit were Orelvis Martinez, Josh Kasevich, and Damiano Palmegiani.
Buffalo continues the series on Friday, with Andrew Bash expected to start against former Blue Jay, Thomas Pannone.
