Minor League Report: Dunedin swept the doubleheader

Overall, it was a good day for the affiliates on Wednesday.
Both rookie league teams, the Florida Complex League Blue Jays and the Dominican Summer League Jays, had the day off. That leaves just the four “A” affiliate teams, who went 3-2 for the day.
Let’s take a look at the latest Minor League Report!

Buffalo won 5-2

With a 5-2 win over the Worcester Red Sox, the Buffalo Bisons have now won four of their last five games and sit at 34-31 for the season.
There were no home runs on the day for the Bisons, but Will Robertson hit his eighth double of the season, the team’s only extra-base hit. On top of that, Steward Berroa had a three-hit performance with a walk, Damiano Palmegiani had two hits, and Rafael Lantigua had two singles as well.
Beau Sulser started the game for the Bisons and pitched four strong innings, striking out three and allowing three hits. Hayden Juenger pitched two scoreless innings with a walk and a strikeout. Erik Swanson’s struggles continued, as he allowed a hit and an earned run (two runs in total) in an inning, but picked up the win.
Connor Cooke struck out the side in a clean inning, and Mason Fluharty picked up his first save of the season in a clean inning.

New Hampshire shut out

One win, one loss, one win, one loss. That’s the way it has been for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in recent weeks, as they fell 5-0 to the Richmond Flying Squirrels to move to 27-32 for the season.
The Blue Jays affiliate had just two hits, with Josh Kasevich and Alex De Jesus each hitting a single, while Alan Roden and Rainer Nuñez walked once each. The latter struck out three times, with the Fisher Cats combining for 14 strikeouts. Not really much to write about here. Garrett Spain also had a great throw to cut down a runner.
Devereaux Harrison had a rough start, giving up five runs in 4.1 innings pitched, striking out a batter and walking two. Hunter Gregory struck out four in his inning and a third, while the returning T.J. Brock struck out a batter in an inning. Adrián Hernández struck out a batter and walked a batter in two innings.

Vancouver blown out

The runs started early and often for Spokane, as they defeated the Vancouver Canadians 9-1 thanks to seven runs in the first two innings.
Like the Fisher Cats, there wasn’t a whole lot of offence for the Canadians. Estiven Machado hit his second home of the season, and second in three games. He’s raised his batting average from .176 to .208 over his last five games.
That was it for extra-base hits, but Peyton William, Glenn Santiago, and Robert Brooks all had a single, with the latter hitting his first in the Jays’ organization.
Pat Gallagher had a rough outing, giving up seven earned runs in an inning and two thirds. Rafael Ohashi gave up two earned runs in two innings and two thirds, while Naswell Paulino pitched the same total with two strikeouts. Johnathan Lavallee pitched the only clean inning, while Conor Larkin struck out two in his inning of work.

Dunedin won doubleheader

The Dunedin Blue Jays made up the rainout on Tuesday, winning both games of the doubleheader. In Game 1, they defeated the Bradenton Marauders 8-4. Let’s look at that one first.
Canadian Bryce Arnold had the team’s only home run, his fourth of the season. However, Manuel Beltre and Jean Joseph each hit their 11th double and had multi-hit games, while Victor Arias hit his 10th and Robert Robertis hit his first double of the season. Other players with a hit in this game were Alexis Hernandez and Nicolas Deschamps.
Jorge Bautista made the start for the Blue Jays, striking out five in three innings, but also allowing four earned runs. Eliander Alcalde pitched two clean innings with two strikeouts, while Irv Carter struck out two in his two innings of work.
The second game of the doubleheader was a lot closer, with the D-Jays winning this one 2-1 to bring their record to 31-28.
Dunedin needed just two pitchers, with Juaron Watts-Brown starting this game and finishing with a line of 5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K with a solo home run given up. Kai Peterson struck out five in two innings, raising his K% to 43.6%.
The bats were quiet, with just four hits, all singles. Edward Duran drove in a run, while Alexis Hernandez, Jean Joseph, and Tucker Toman each had one as well. Yeuni Munoz reached base on the D-Jays’ only walk.
