There was a lot of losing in the Blue Jays organization on Friday.
Four affiliate teams were in action, as three of the four teams fell. Although the Dunedin Blue Jays were scheduled to play a doubleheader, the second game of the doubleheader was postponed for the third consecutive day.
Let’s take a look at all that in the latest Minor League Report!
Buffalo shutout
The Buffalo Bisons were shutout 7-0 on Friday, allowing 15 hits to their five. With the loss to the Durham Bulls, the Bisons’ second-half record sits at 21-34, and they’re in the midst of a five-game losing streak.
There wasn’t a whole lot of action for the Bisons, as Jonatan Clase hit the team’s only extra-base hit, his fifth double in the Blue Jays organization. Moreover, Alan Roden, Rafael Lantigua, Phil Clarke, and Damiano Palmegiani each hit a single, while Will Robertson walked twice.
Brandon Eisert started what was a bullpen game for the Bisons, pitched an inning and two thirds while giving up an earned run. Luis Quiñones had a tough game, allowing five earned runs in two and one third innings while striking out four. Braydon Fisher also allowed an earned run in his inning and a third pitched, while José Cuas and Eric Pardinho each had scoreless outings while striking out two. Cuas threw an inning and two thirds.
New Hampshire fell in extra innings
Down 4-0 in the top of the eighth, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats managed to score four runs that inning, and even took the lead in the top of the tenth. However, Matt Fraizer hit a three-run home run to give the Altoona Curve a 7-5 win. New Hampshire’s second-half record sits at 18-35 and they’ve been eliminated from postseason competition thanks to losing six straight.
It wasn’t all bad though. Ryan McCarty hit his ninth home run at the level to extend his career-high. Moreover, RJ Schreck hit his eighth double with the Fisher Cats, while Rainer Nuñez and Devonte Brown each had two singles. The latter played second base for only the seventh time in his professional career. Josh Rivera had the other hit.
Devereaux Harrison pitched a quality start, finishing with a line of 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K to bring his season ERA to 4.85. Hunter Gregory gave up three runs, two earned, in his inning of work. Andrew Bechtold pitched a scoreless inning, while Ryan Jennings pitched a clean inning. Anders Tolhurst was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) while failing to retire a batter.

Vancouver blown out
The only Blue Jays’ affiliate with a realistic chance of making the postseason is the Vancouver Canadians. Unfortunately, they fell to the Hillsboro Hops by a score of 9-3, moving their second-half record to 34-24. Moreover, the Hops are just five games back of the Canadians with two more games in the season series.
Kendry Rojas had a terrific stretch of games where he pitched six+ innings in his past five starts, allowing four total runs. However, that came to an end on Friday, as he finished with a line of 4.1 IP, 11 H, 5 ER (9 R), 1 BB, 3 K to bring his season ERA to 2.54.
The bullpen had a good day though. J.J. Sanchez struck out three in an inning and two thirds, Chay Yeager struck out two in an inning of work, and Aaron Munson struck out two in a clean inning of work.
Jace Bohrofen hit his 13th home run of the season, a three-run shot in the top of the second inning. Cutter Coffey hit his fourth double with the Canadians, while Peyton Williams and Brennan Orf each hit a single.

Dunedin won 6-4
The Dunedin Blue Jays were the only Jays’ affiliate to win on Friday, as they defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers 6-4 to move their second-half record to 29-27. However, they sit far behind the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels for the division lead.
There were some extra-base hits for the D-Jays, as Brock Tibbitts hit his fourth double, Manuel Beltre hit his 16th double, and Nick Mitchell hit his second double. Tibbitts had a two-hit game, while both Mitchell and Yhoangel Aponte had three hits on the day, the latter hit three singles. Tucker Toman and Sean Keys each had a single as well.
Nick Mitchell extends our lead with a 2-RBI single!
Adam Macko made the start in a rehab appearance, striking out five in three innings of work. Gilberto Batista pitched five innings with three runs allowed (two earned) while striking out five. Jay Schueler picked up his first professional save, allowing an earned run in an inning of work.
