After making three starts with the club, the Nick Tepesch era seems to have come to an end. For now at least.

The veteran righty was activated from the paternity list Friday and was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. The Jays have yet to announce who they’ll be starting in Sunday’s game, which would have been Tepesch’s turn, but everything points to Joe Biagini being recalled for another opportunity in the rotation.

Tepesch was… well, exactly what you’d expect him to be in his three appearances. He’s a 28-year-old journeyman who posted 4.84 and 4.36 ERAs in his only two full seasons in the big leagues, and with the Jays, he put together one solid outing and a couple of bad ones. All told, Tepesch tossed 14 innings and allowed eight runs on 17 hits and seven walks while striking out seven.

Biagini was sent down to Triple-A to regain his confidence and get stretched out in Buffalo’s rotation back in early August. He’s made four starts in Triple-A this season. Most recently, Biagini held the Pawtucket Red Sox to two runs over seven innings, and, overall, he has a 3.12 ERA in 17 1/3 innings pitched with the Bisons.

It’s been a weird season for the 27-year-old (he’s only a year younger than Tepesch?! WTF?) as he was pulled out of the ‘pen and thrown into the deep end due to multiple injuries to starting pitchers, fared well at first, but completely lost it as time went on.

We’ll see on Saturday who’s ultimately announced to be Sunday’s pitcher, but it would be pretty shocking if it were anybody else but Biagini, who seems likely to ride out the rest of the season in the rotation as part of audition for 2018.
