The 2025 season has been a steep drop-off for Orelvis Martínez.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s annual mid-season prospect list, where we’ll take a look at the 50 best prospects in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. I’ll look at the player’s stats, what other publications have to say, as well as my own observations of the players.
Coming into this season ranked as our third-best Toronto Blue Jays prospect, it has been a rough season for the power-hitting infielder. While there’s still potential in his bat, others prospects have passed him as he now ranks as our 13th-best prospect. If you missed who ranked as our 14th-best prospect, you can read about Fernando Perez here.

Getting to know Orelvis Martínez…

Position: Infielder
Bats: Right
Born: November 19, 2001
Acquired: 2018 International Free Agency
Previous ranking: Third (2025 pre-season)
During the 2018 International Free Agency period, the Blue Jays signed Martínez to a bonus of $3.5 million, one of the largest given out in franchise history. The following season, the 5’11”, 200 lbs infielder slashed .275/.352/.549 with seven home runs in 163 plate appearances in the Dominican Summer League.
The Blue Jays were aggressive with Martínez beginning in 2021, starting the year with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, where he slashed .279/.369/.572 with 19 home runs in 326 plate appearances. Toward the end of the season, Martínez was promoted to the High-A Vancouver Canadians, where he batted .214 with nine home runs in 125 plate appearances.
Those were his only plate appearances at the High-A level, as Martínez spent the entirety of the 2022 season as a 20-year-old in Double-A. Overall, he slashed .203/.286/.446 with 30 home runs in 492 plate appearances. He began the 2023 season there, starting the year off rough before catching fire in May.
At the end of his Double-A tenure, he was slashing .226/.339/.485 with 17 home runs in 292 plate appearances. As a 21-year-old, Martínez slashed .263/.340/.496 with 11 home runs in 246 plate appearances with the Buffalo Bisons.
Starting the 2024 season with the Bisons, Martínez slashed .260/.343/.523 with 16 home runs in 269 plate appearances for a 124 wRC+. He earned a promotion to the big leagues and even got his first hit, but was suspended shortly after for PEDs. Martínez returned to the Bisons in September 2024, where he hit above .300 in 50 plate appearances.
Although Martínez hit well after his suspension, the 2024 season was a perfect opportunity to showcase what he could do at the big league level had the Blue Jays had a dismal season. The suspension got in the way of that.
What’s worse is that Martínez has had a brutal 2025 season, slashing just .176/.288/.348 with 13 home runs in 394 plate appearances for a 72 wRC+. While his 11.9 BB% is still respectable, his 28.4 K% is the worst since his 2022 season with the Fisher Cats.
MLB Pipeline ranked Martínez as their 12th-best Blue Jays prospect in the mid-season update. Power is his calling card, but a concern that has lingered throughout his development is whether or not his hit tool would be good to tap into it. For a while, it looked as if it were possible, but Martínez has had a pretty tough year.
Add the fact that he has a lot of swing and misses on soft stuff while not having a defensive home, and his position in the organization is a little worrisome. There’s still time to regain his stock as he’ll enter the 2026 season as a 24-year-old, but time is running out.
