Things worth mentioning…

• May has been horrendous. How horrendous? Per Mike Wilner, this is the first time since 1979 that the Jays will not win back-to-back games in a full calendar month. Whenever you get compared to the rendition of your team’s early expansion days (unless you’re the Golden Knights, I guess) it isn’t a good thing. The Jays have had a historically bad month of May for their standards.
• Marco Estrada was given a very short leash tonight. He went just three-and-two-thirds before getting the yank in favour of Aaron Loup. Estrada was tagged for four runs on seven hits. He collected only one strikeout. The Red Sox weren’t getting fooled at all. It looked like they were taking batting practice. Of the 18 plate appearances for the Red Sox against Estrada, nine resulted in a line drive.
• Offensively the Jays made things interesting in the later stages of the game. They loaded the bases and scored a couple runs in the seventh in what appeared to be a rally but Joe Kelly came in and slammed the door. Same deal in the ninth as Craig Kimbrel was brought in to record two outs.
• Kevin Pillar was batting second today and he responded with four strikeouts in five at bats. Woof. Normal Pillar is back, it seems.
• Russell Martin got hit by Rick Porcello and it looked like he was ready to charge the mound and chuck fists. I was kinda hoping for a brawl.
