The 2026-27 off-season kicked off on Monday at 5:00 PM ET.
That time also marked the deadline to activate players from the 60-day injured list, with the Toronto Blue Jays doing just that. They announced that Addison Barger, Jonatan Clase, Jake Bloss, Bowden Francis, José Berríos, Anthony Santander, and Cody Ponce were added back to the 40-man roster.
Corresponding moves saw CJ Van Eyk DFA’d and outrighted to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, while Rudy Martin Jr. elected free agency after he was outrighted at the end of October. Myles Straw’s team option was also declined.
With the addition of the seven players, the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster now sits at 37. All seven players basically missed the entire season. Santander, Bloss, Francis, and Berríos didn’t appear in a big league game, though Francis was the lone player of the four who failed to play in a minor league game in 2026.
Ponce’s season came to an end early, as he tore his ACL after just two and one-third innings in his season debut. Barger was injured shortly afterward, injuring both ankles in the following game. He returned in May, but injured his arm and required Tommy John surgery. Clase appeared in nine games and hit two home runs over 25 plate appearances, but suffered a foot injury in July, which ended his season.
Van Eyk made his big league debut this past season, hurling 11.2 innings of work and finishing the season with a 5.40 ERA and 5.84 FIP. His stint with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons was better, finishing the season with a 4.02 ERA and 4.37 FIP in 112 innings of work.
Martin Jr.’s stint as a Blue Jay was brief, appearing in just two games where he walked and struck out in three plate appearances. His season came to an end in September and he was recently outrighted before electing free agency.
Expect a lot more transactions over the course of November, as the lockout begins a minute before midnight on December 1st.
