Toronto Blue Jays top prospect Ricky Tiedemann will be sidelined for at least a week due to left biceps inflammation, manager John Schneider announced on Tuesday.

Tiedemann, who left due to injury in his start last Thursday after tossing 3.2 innings, is considered week-to-week after last Friday’s MRI revealed swelling within his pitching arm.

The 20-year-old surrendered two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three batters before exiting his fourth outing of the 2023 campaign. He owns a 4.97 ERA and a 1.47 FIP with 23 strikeouts in 12.2 innings this season.

Tiedemann was shut down by the Blue Jays this spring after experiencing left shoulder soreness, delaying the start of his second professional campaign until Apr. 13. His first season with the organization was cut short after 18 starts and 78.2 innings as the team managed his workload.

The promising young lefty posted a 2.17 ERA, 2.51 FIP and a 38.9 per cent strikeout rate across three minor-league levels (single-A, high-A, double-A) last season.
