The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2026, with six new members heading into the St. Marys, Ont. establishment.
Canadians Stubby Clapp (Windsor, Ont.), Jim Baba (Moose Jaw, SK), Paul Runge (St. Catherines, Ont.), and Kate Psota (Burlington, Ont.) will be part of the class, while big leaguers Devon White and Bill Stoneman will round out the group thanks to their contributions to baseball North of the border.
Clapp has been a longtime figure on the international circuit for Team Canada, having started playing for the Junior National Team in 1991 and playing at various tournaments throughout his career, such as the 1999 Pan Am Games. The Ontario product played a handful of games in the big leagues with the Cardinals before turning his attention to coaching, where he later managed the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds and then to first base coach with the big league squad in 2019, where he remains.
The longtime Cardinal was added to Baseball Canada’s Wall of Excellence in 2025.
The late Jim Baba heads into the hall after spending over three decades growing baseball across Canada.
A former coach, Baba held various roles with Baseball Canada and was a technical official for various international events under the World Baseball Softball Confederation banner. Baba passed away in September of 2025.
Paul Runge joins the Class of 2026 after a 25-year stint in the big leagues as an umpire in the National League. Runge joined the big leagues in 1973 after spending over nine seasons in the minor leagues. Runge umpired over 3,194 MLB games and 22 World Series games throughout his career, and was on the field when Joe Carter launched his World Series-clinching home run in 1993. Runge also served as the NL director of umpires for two seasons (1998 and 1999).
Rounding out the Canucks heading into St. Marys is Kate Psota, an Ontario product who has become one of the longest tenured Women’s National Team members.
Psota joined the squad in 2004 and represented Canada across 15 years, winning six Women’s World Cup medals. She retired from playing in 2021 and turned to coaching, where she is now on the Women’s National Team Staff.
While not born in Canada, Devon White and Bill Stoneman join the four Canadians as part of the Class of 2026.
White was acquired by the Blue Jays during the 1990/1991 season and was a prominent feature on the squad through their World Series-winning campaigns. A key figure in the ‘WAMCO’ lineup, White was also a stellar defender in the outfield and in the leadoff spot for the Jays. Across five seasons with Toronto, White posted a .270/.327/.432 slash line with 72 home runs and 274 RBIs with a .760 OPS, earning five consecutive Gold Glove Awards and one All-Star appearance with Toronto.
Congratulations to 7x Gold Glover and 3x World Series Champion - Devon White - on his election to the @CDNBaseballHOF 🇨🇦🏆
Upon retiring, White turned to coaching and currently holds the position of special assistant to player development with the Jays, but also worked as a hitting coach for the Triple-A Bisons before joining the big league staff.
Lastly, Bill Stoneman heads into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame after spending five seasons with the Montreal Expos from 1969 through 1973 and through his various roles in the Expos executive ranks.
Across 1085 1/3 innings, Stoneman amassed a 3.98 ERA and a 3.74 FIP while striking out 831 batters across 186 outings (156 starts). He earned an All-Star appearance in 1972, pitching to a 2.98 ERA through 250 2/3 innings. Following his playing career, Stoneman returned to the Expos in their front office, rising to the position of vice-president, baseball operations. He would later become the California Angels general manager in 1999, helping the Angels win their first and only World Series in 2002.
The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame will be hosting the induction class on Saturday, June 20th. As well, Hazel Mae will be awarded the 2025 Jack Graney Award at the event.
