We’re getting a roll now!
On Monday afternoon, MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis broke that the Blue Jays were signing 13th-rounder Brennan Orf to a bonus of $150,000.
Orf was arguably the best pick of the third day from the Jays, as he slashed .351/.506/.759 with 19 homers in 253 plate appearances with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. For his three season collegiate career, he slashed .324/.471/.674 with 33 homers in 497 plate appearances, while walking more (18.9%) than striking out (17.3%).
He was also teammates with undrafted signee Bryce Arnold with the Frederick Keys in the MLB Draft League. There, Orf slashed .333/.529/.500 with no homers in 34 plate appearances. For his entire summer league career, he slashed .293/.432/.466 with six homers in 294 plate appearances.
While Orf may have signed to a bonus of $150,000, none of that will count towards the cap, as all players drafted from rounds 11-20 have a slot of $150,000 that doesn’t count towards the bonus. As it stands, the Jays have $3,334,332 remaining in bonus pool money, with 15 players to sign.
