Back on Tuesday, the Blue Jays designated Zeke Carrera for assignment because they needed room on the 40-man roster for Seung-hwan Oh. We all thought the Zeke Carrera era was over. But it isn’t!

According to the team’s official PR account — or some weirdly efficient random Twitter account that pretends to be the Blue Jays official PR account — Carrera cleared waivers and has been out-righted to Triple-A Buffalo. He’s also been welcomed back to big league camp as a non-roster invitee.

Zeke could have rejected the assignment and opted for free agency, but given the fact the entire league passed on him and his $1.9 million price tag, he isn’t going to be getting that kind of contract with another team on the open market.

So, ultimately, the Jays now have some more added depth in the outfield that can start the season at Triple-A Buffalo. I would assume the team rolls into the season with Kevin Pillar, Randal Grichuk, Curtis Granderson, and Steve Pearce as its four outfielders, then Carrera would join Anthony Alford, Teoscar Hernandez, and Dwight Smith Jr. in Buffalo. Either that or the team tries to move Carrera via trade by taking back salary in another spot.

Who knows! All I know is that the Zeke era will continue for now.
