Can you believe that Opening Day is just around the corner?
We’ve gotten to the dog days of March, where starting pitchers go six innings deep, non-roster invites get cut, and the sample size is large enough to speculate on who and who doesn’t make the roster.
There are a handful of prospects who have put themselves on the map. For example, take Orelvis Martínez who has slashed .333/.391/.524 with a home run in 23 plate appearances. His strong performance has positioned him to be one of the first players to be called up, potentially even making the Opening Day roster out of Spring Training.
In this article, we’ll look at three Toronto Blue Jays prospects who have stood out so far this Spring Training.

Alan Roden

Simply put, Alan Roden should make the Blue Jays roster out of Spring Training. Selected in the third round of the 2022 draft, the outfielder had an okay debut and an excellent first full professional season.
Roden put himself in a good spot last season, slashing .293/.391/.475 with 16 home runs between Double-A and Triple-A. He’s only raised his stock so far in Spring Training, as the 25-year-old is slashing .412/.615/.882 with two home runs in 26 plate appearances. Moreover, Roden has a 23.1 K% and a 3.8 BB%, giving him a 268 wRC+.
At this point, it’s impossible for the Blue Jays to not add him to the 40-man roster and at the very least, use him as the fourth outfielder. He’s better than George Springer and even could take Springer’s role as the lead-off hit as Roden has shown an incredible ability to get on base in his collegiate and professional career.
He’s certainly stood out.

Rainer Nuñez

First baseman Rainer Nuñez is still a couple of seasons away from contending for a roster spot, but he’s had a good Spring Training so far. Through 18 plate appearances, the 24-year-old is slashing .438/.500/.500 with no home runs and a double for a 171 wRC+. Moreover, he’s only struck out 5.6% of the time while walking 11.1% of the time.
Nuñez has had an interesting career. He first broke out in 2022, slashing .304/.340/.484 with 19 home runs in 500 plate appearances between Single-A and High-A. Thanks to a .299 batting average in the Florida State League, the first baseman won the batting title. In the off-season, he made his Dominican Winter League debut with Estrellas Orientales, hitting a league-leading seven home runs and winning the league’s Rookie of the Year.
The 2023 season was his first foray into the upper minors and the first baseman struggled, hitting .224/.273/.352 with 10 home runs in 326 plate appearances with a 27 K% in Double-A. However, Nuñez repeated the level in 2024, slashing .275/.349/.416 with 12 home runs in 433 plate appearances while his K% dropped to 20.1%.
It’ll be interesting to see how the 24-year-old does in 2025.

Mason Fluharty

Another player drafted in 2022 could make his debut this season – Mason Fluharty. So far this Spring Training, the 23-year-old left-handed reliever has a 1.69 ERA and a 3.05 FIP in 5.1 innings pitched, along with a 38.1 K% and a 4.8 BB%.
Selected in the fifth round of the 2022 draft, Fluharty made his debut the same season and his full-season debut in 2023. He split his season between the High-A Vancouver Canadians and the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, posting a 3.28 ERA and a 3.72 FIP in 57.2 innings pitched with a 29.9 K% and a 9.2 BB%.
Last season, the left-handed pitcher spent the entirety of the season with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons where he had a 3.63 ERA and a 4.15 FIP in 67 innings pitched, along with a 27.4 K% and a 9 BB%.
The thing is, he averages in the high-80s with his cutter (the substitute for the lack of a fastball) and a mid-80s with a nasty slider. Even though he doesn’t throw hard, Fluharty strikes out batters and generates whiffs. He’s one of a handful of left-handed relievers who could earn an opportunity with the Blue Jays this season.
