The <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/">Toronto Blue Jays</a> are off to their best start since the 2022 season, with a record of 44–37. Despite injuries and a few underperforming players, the team looks a lot stronger and more confident, both on the mound and at the plate.
Now holding the second Wild Card spot and sitting just three games back of the first-place Yankees, there’s a lot to consider heading into the trade deadline. While identifying who to trade for is easier said than done, let’s look at a few players the Blue Jays could consider moving if they want to contend in 2025.

Joey Loperfido
Joey Loperfido was one of the pieces the Blue Jays acquired from Houston last season when they traded away Yusei Kikuchi. Loperfido is currently second on the team in RBIs (36) and behind only Will Robertson (39), who spent some time in the big leagues earlier this year. He&#8217;s authored a .275/.354/.420 slash line with the Bisons and has 10 stolen bases on the year. He&#8217;s struck out just 63 times in 71 games and has chipped in six home runs as well.
He’s played the most games with the Bisons this season, which raises questions as to why the team hasn’t called him up yet.
Perhaps the Blue Jays want him to get a full season in the minors to avoid burning one of his options. However, with how jammed the outfield depth is for the Blue Jays this season (11 players have started in the outfield), we could see Loperfido’s name come up in trade discussions from other teams, given the depth and lack of playing time available.

Although he bounced back with a <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/news/toronto-blue-jays-minor-league-report-orelvis-martinez-starting-hot">strong showing</a> in spring training, where he hit .320 with a home run and three RBIs, Martinez was ultimately optioned back to triple-A, where his season has taken a rough turn.
He’s hitting just .190 through 66 games and has one of the lowest OPS marks among regulars in the lineup at .640. Still, one down year doesn’t mean he’s doomed. Martinez showed promise last season, hitting .267 with 17 home runs and 49 RBIs in 74 games.
With the major league infield likely set for the next few seasons, Martinez could benefit from a fresh start with a team in need of a power-hitting infielder, although his stock has likely dipped given the tough start to the year and previous suspension.

August 2023 feels like an eternity ago. When Davis Schneider was called up, he immediately captivated fans and became a fan favourite. The “roommate trio” of Schneider, Spencer Horwitz, and Ernie Clement took the fanbase by storm.
Fast forward to today, and that trio may soon be down to one. Horwitz was traded this past winter, and Clement has seemingly secured a spot on the roster as the infield utility guy and splitting third base with Addison Barger, who has been the darling of the year. Now, some are wondering if Schneider&#8217;s time with the organization is nearing its end.
Schneider is hitting just .170 this season with Toronto, with one home run and five RBIs, and has already been sent down once. He did play well in <a href="https://bluejaysnation.com/news/checking-in-on-davis-schneider-since-his-return-to-triple-a">triple-A</a> when he was optioned back down, but that hasn&#8217;t translated into success this season.
