The Glendale Desert Dogs’ losing streak has reached six games.
On Thursday evening, they took on the Salt River Rafters on the road, getting thumped 16-6. Four Toronto Blue Jays prospects were involved in the game, and it didn’t go great for them either. Let’s take a look at how Game 13 went in the Arizona Fall League.
Josh Kasevich moved up in the lineup, batting first, while Cutter Coffey hit cleanup. On the third pitch of the game, Kasevich flew out in foul territory for the Desert Dogs’ first out. Later that inning, Coffey drew a six-pitch walk and proceeded to steal second base. He was left stranded.
In the second inning, Kasevich hit into a fielder’s choice for the second out of the inning, while Coffey’s strikeout later that inning ended the inning. Their next at bat was in the top of the fourth, as Kasevich flew out and Coffey grounded out.
Kasevich batted second in the top of the sixth, grounding out for the Dogs’ second out. Coffey’s next plate appearance led off the top of the seventh inning, hitting a sharp lineout for the first out. In his next plate appearance, Coffey hit a single in the top of the eighth, but was left stranded. Coffey’s final at-bat saw him ground out.
On the pitching side of things, it was a rough outing for both Yondrei Rojas and Chay Yeager in relief. The former gave up four earned runs and two walks while not retiring an out, bringing his season ERA to 30.86. Yeager did a little better, allowing three earned runs but getting three outs.
Diving deeper into the stats, Coffey’s lineout in the seventh inning had an exit velocity of 106.1 mph, the fourth-hardest-hit ball of the game. Coffey’s other balls in play had an exit velocity of 75.9 mph and 73.2 mph.
Kasevich put five balls in play this game, three of which were considered hard hit. The shortstop’s sixth-inning groundout had an exit velocity of 101.2 mph, his single had an exit velocity of 97.7 mph, and his fielder’s choice had an exit velocity of 95.7 mph. Even his two other balls in play were hit quite hard, with his two flyouts having an exit velocity of 93 mph and 90.1 mph.
As for the pitchers, Rojas averaged 95.3 mph on his five sinkers and 95.5 mph on his four four-seam fastballs. He mainly threw cutters in this outing. Yeager threw 16 fastballs, averaging 97.3 mph and reaching 98.1 mph. He also threw nine cutters.
The Desert Dogs return to action on Saturday at 6:30 PM ET with a game against the Peoria Javelinas at home.
