The Toronto Blue Jays have to take advantage of their light schedule to begin the season.
They started the season off well, sweeping the three-game series against the Athletics, thanks to terrific pitching from both their starters and relievers. Records were set, and the Jays began the season 3-0 for the first time since 1996. On Monday, they welcome the Colorado Rockies for the first time since 2024, looking to go 4-0 for the first time since 1992, the lone time they’ve won four or more games to start the season.
Last season in Denver, the Blue Jays swept the Rockies thanks to three blowouts, winning 15-1, 10-4, and 20-1. Their 45 runs is an all-time record for most runs in a three-game series, as are their 63 hits. The 2025 American League pennant Jays were terrific, they’re somehow even better in 2026.
This is the first time this season where the Blue Jays have their ideal lineup. George Springer leads off after hitting his 64th career lead-off home run to start a game, only behind Rickey Henderson’s 81. Following him is another former Houston Astro, Jesús Sánchez. The outfielder hit his first home run as a Blue Jay in Sunday’s victory. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has yet to get going, but watch out once he does. He’s batting third.
The Jays’ middle third is comprised of Addison Barger, Alejandro Kirk, and Daulton Varsho, with Kirk hitting the lone home run of the three this season. Kazuma Okamoto returns to the seventh spot, while Ernie Clement and Andrés Giménez bat eighth and ninth respectively.
Over the first three games, the Blue Jays pitching staff struck out 50 batters, 22 of which came from Kevin Gausman (11), Dylan Cease (12), and Eric Lauer (9). A big reason why Cody Ponce was signed was thanks to a K% above 36% in the Korean Baseball Organization. He’ll make his debut for the Blue Jays on Monday. It’ll be the first time Ponce steps on a big league mound since October 3rd, 2021.
Let’s set up Monday’s game against the Rockies.
