It has been a busy weekend for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Not only are they wrapping up a nine-game road trip on the west coast, but the 2026 MLB Draft took place, as did the All-Star Futures game. There were two Blue Jays representing the American League team, Nolan Perry and JoJo Parker.
Neither player started the game, but Perry was the first to enter. The right-handed pitcher came into the game in the bottom of the third with the game tied at one. After getting ahead of Edward Florentino, Perry plunked him to put a runner on.
Florentino stole second, as 2025 first overall pick Eli Willits drew a six pitch walk. Perry got Roldy Brito to swing at the first pitch of the at-bat, getting him to ground out which advanced the lead runner 90 feet and put runners on the corners. The top prospect in baseball, Jesús Made, grounded out to drive in a run, then Brito was thrown out trying to steal third.
That ended Perry’s outing, as he generated one whiff on four total swings. The fastball averaged 94.3 mph, touching 94.9 mph. Perry also threw three splitters and three sliders, with neither generating a whiff. Both pitches averaged about 86 mph, and he threw two of his sliders for strikes.
Parker entered the game in the bottom of the fourth as a defensive substitution. His first plate appearance was in the following inning, stepping up to the box with a runner on third and two outs. The Blue Jays’ first round pick in 2025 watched the first five pitches go by him, earning a 3-2 count before fouling off the next two pitches.’
On the eighth pitch of the at-bat, Perry connected on a 92.5 mph middle-middle fastball, but didn’t get nearly enough of it as he flew out to centre field. The exit velocity on the pitch was 78.2 mph.
Perry had another run-producing opportunity in the top of the seventh. This time, he didn’t make a mistake, as he hit a two-out double off a 101.1 mph fastball courtesy of Miguel Sime Jr., driving in the American League’s fifth run of the game and just barely missing a long-ball. It came off the bat at 96.4 mph.
The All-Star Game festivities continue on Monday, as the annual Home Run derby is set to start at 8:00 PM ET. Unfortunately, no Blue Jays are participating in that, but Dylan Cease will start the All-Star Game on Tuesday at 8:00 PM ET. Louis Varland and Ernie Clement are also set to participate in that game.
