Blue Jays Minor League Report: RJ Schreck and Jace Bohrofen hit organization-leading seventh home run

Five different Toronto Blue Jays hitters are tied for the team lead with seven home runs.
This is the May 16-19 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at the past three games for each of the Blue Jays’ affiliates. We’ll look at the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, and FCL Jays in this article. Let’s take a week that was!

Bisons split series

Friday saw the Bisons fall 10-3 to the Worcester Red Sox, dropping their season record to 15-26. Riley Tirotta’s fifth double of the season was the lone extra-base hit as he had a two-hit game. Easton Lucas had a tough start, giving up seven earned runs in three and one-third innings. Dillon Tate allowed three earned runs in his inning of work, while Andrew Bash, Josh Walker, Kevin Gowdy, and Tommy Nance all threw scoreless outings.
The Bisons got back in the win column on Saturday, defeating the Red Sox 6-5. Davis Schneider hit his fourth home run of the season, and Josh Rivera hit his first Triple-A home run. Damiano Palmegiani, Rivera, and Ali Sanchez hit doubles. Adam Kloffenstein made the start, giving up three earned runs (seven walks) in 2.2 innings pitched. Jimmy Brunette, Erik Swanson, Ryan Burr, and Ryan Jennings pitched scoreless outings, Jacob Barnes gave up two earned runs in his two-thirds of an inning pitched.
Sunday’s season finale saw the Bisons double up the Red Sox, winning 8-4. Rainer Nunez hit his fourth home run, and Orelvis Martinez hit his fifth home run. Moreover, Tirotta hit two doubles. Anders Tolhurst started the game, giving up four earned runs in three innings of work. Paxton Schultz also pitched three innings, striking out five. Eric Pardinho threw a scoreless outing, as did Gowdy and Nance.
This week, the Bisons head to Lehigh Valley to take on the Iron Pigs.

Fisher Cats swept the doubleheader, lost the other four games

Friday saw the New Hampshire Fisher Cats fall 3-2 to the Reading Fightin Phils. Eddinson Paulino hit his second home run of the season, while Yohendrick Pinango and Jace Bohrofen each hit doubles. Michael Dominguez started the game, throwing four innings and giving up two earned runs. Bobby Milacki pitched the other four innings, giving up two earned runs.
On Saturday, the teams play a doubleheader, with the Fisher Cats winning both games. The first one was an 8-7 victory, as RJ Schreck, Pinango, and Ryan McCarty all hit home runs. Ryan Watson pitched five and one-third innings, giving up six earned runs and striking out six. Conor Larkin picked up the save, pitching a scoreless inning and two-thirds with two strikeouts.
The second game of the doubleheader saw far less scoring, as the Fisher Cats won 4-3. Schreck hit his sixth home run of the season, as did Bohrofen. Devereaux Harrison started the game, pitching five and two-thirds innings with an earned run against and six strikeouts. Hunter Gregory picked up the save, pitching an inning and a third, striking out one and giving up an earned run.
Sadly, the win streak didn’t last long as the Fisher Cats fell 6-5 on Sunday. Bohrofen and Schreck each hit their seventh home run of the season, as Jay Harry hit his second in Double-A. McCarty hit his third double of the season. Geison Urabez pitched three innings, striking out four. Johnathan Lavallee struggled, giving up four runs (three earned) to bring his season ERA to 8.31. Grayson Thurman was tagged with the loss as he gave up two earned runs, while Justin Kelly threw a scoreless inning.
This week, the Fisher Cats return home to host the Somerset Patriots for a six-game series.

Canadians are on a four-game losing streak

After losing on Thursday, the Vancouver Canadians lost their second straight on Friday, falling 7-6. Sean Keys hit two home runs to give him six for the season, as Eddie Micheletti Jr. hit his third home run of the season. Jackson Wentworth made the start, giving up four earned runs in five innings. Jonathan Todd pitched a scoreless two innings, and Chay Yeager struck out two in his clean inning of work. Bo Bonds was tagged with the loss and blown save, giving up three earned runs in his inning of work.
Due to a rainout on Saturday, the Canadians and Everett AquaSox played two games on Sunday, with the Canadians falling 1-0 in the first one. In total, the Canadians had two hits, a single from Keys and Micheletti Jr. Juaron Watts-Brown gave up the lone run, striking out eight in his five innings of work. J.J. Sanchez struck out the side, and Aaron Munson pitched a clean inning with a strikeout.
The second game was a 10-2 loss, as Gabriel Martinez hit two doubles. Arjun Nimmala and Je’Von Ward also hit a double, with the latter also hitting a triple. Kevin Miranda made the start, giving up two earned runs in two and a third innings pitched. Pat Gallagher gave up an unearned run in 2.2 innings.
This week, the Canadians head to Eugene to face the Emeralds.

D-Jays splits series

The Dunedin Blue Jays had a 2-1 series lead heading into Friday, but the Bradenton Marauders were able to tie it up with a 4-2 win. Peyton Powell and Leo Jimenez hit doubles, while Canadian Bryce Arnold hit two doubles. Daniel Guerrea pitched five innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out five. Jay Schueler gave up the other earned run, and Bennett Flynn struck out three in an inning and a third.
Saturday’s game was a blowout in favour of the Marauders, as they won 13-5. Yhoangel Aponte hit a home run and a double, as Edward Duran and Manuel Beltre also hit doubles. Gilberto Batista had a rough start, giving up six earned runs in 4.2 innings with seven strikeouts. Juanmi Vasquez, Johan Simon, and Christian Mracna all gave up earned runs in their outing, while Nate LaRue got an out without giving up a run.
Thanks to a 6-1 win on Sunday, the D-Jays were back in the win column. Kendry Chirinos hit his third home run of the season, Duran hit his fourth double, Sam Shaw hit a double, and Aponte hit two doubles. Austin Cates started the game, giving up an earned run and striking out five in three and two-thirds innings pitched. Eminen Flores struck out five in his two innings, and Javen Coleman struck out four of the five batters he faced. Colby Martin picked up the save, striking out three in two innings.
This week, the D-Jays host the Tampa Tarpons

FCL Jays win two of three

The Florida Complex League Jays played three games from Friday to Monday, winning two of three. First off was an 8-1 win, as Yorman Licourt and Aldo Gaxiola each hit a double, the former’s fourth of the season in a three-hit game. Carter King made the start, giving up an unearned run and striking out four in three innings of work. Samuel Colmenares finished the game, throwing four innings with a strikeout and a walk.
They followed that up with a 5-1 win over the FCL Yankees. Dariel Ramon hit both extra base hits, a double and a triple. Silvano Hechavarria made the start, going four innings with one earned run allowed with three strikeouts. Jack Eshleman pitched three innings with three strikeouts, Franly Urena pitched a clean inning with a strikeout, and Diego Dominguez pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts and a walk.
Unfortunately, the FCL Jays’ win streak was snapped there, as they fell 7-2 to the FCL Yankees on Monday. Maykel Minoso hit a double, the lone extra-base hit, while David Beckles hit two singles. Sann Omosako had a rough start, giving up seven runs, six earned, in three and one-third innings. Lluveres Severino pitched 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball, and Pedro Tucent pitched a clean inning with two strikeouts.
