The Vancouver Canadians’ season is going to go down to the wire.
This is the June 13 – June 16 edition of the Minor League Report, where we look at how the last three days have gone for each of the Toronto Blue Jays’ affiliates. We’ll look at the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, High-A Vancouver Canadians, Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, FCL Jays, and their two DSL teams in this article. If you missed Friday’s article, you can read it here.
Let’s dig in!

Bisons lose four of six

It was a tough week for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, as they lost four of their six games to the Columbus Clippers. On Friday, they fell 6-5, as Phil Clarke hit his first home run of the season. The returning Will Wagner hit two doubles, and Joey Loperfido and Michael Stefanic each hit a double. All four of those players had a two-hit day, as did Riley Tirotta. Max Scherzer made the rehab start, going four and one-third innings with two earned runs given up. Anders Tolhurst pitched four innings, giving up two earned runs and striking out five.
Saturday saw the Bisons fall 6-1, hitting three measly hits. Tirotta hit his 10th double of the season, while Orelvis Martinez and Rainer Nunez had a hit each. Adam Macko pitched three innings, giving up four hits, four earned runs, four walks, and striking out four. Andres Bash pitched three innings, giving up an earned run and striking out three to bring his season ERA to 2.13. Nick Sandlin, Justin Bruihl, and Dillon Tate all pitched a scoreless inning.
For nine innings, the two teams were held scoreless on Sunday. That changed in the tenth, as the Clippers scored seven and the Bisons scored three. Wagner had the team’s lone extra-base hit, his third double of the week. CJ Van Eyk had a strong start, going five innings with four strikeouts and no earned runs. Trenton Wallace pitched two innings with four strikeouts, and Paxton Schultz pitched a clean inning with two strikeouts.
This week, the Bisons head to Worcester to take on the Red Sox for a six-game series.

Fisher Cats split the series

Thanks to two wins in the first three games, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats split the series. On Friday, they fell 11-1 to the Reading Fightin Phils, as Grant Rogers had a tough day by giving up six earned runs in four innings. Robert Brooks hit a home run, Devonte Brown and Eddinson Paulino each hit a double, while Charles McAdoo hit two doubles.
On Saturday, the Fisher Cats fell 7-4 as rain shortened their game to just seven innings. Ryan McCarty hit three doubles, while Cade Doughty and Jace Bohrofen each hit a double. McAdoo hit his fourth home run of the season. It was a tough start for Ryan Watson, giving up four earned runs in five innings of work. Alex Amalfi gave up three earned runs in his inning of work, being tagged with the loss.
They ended their week with a 5-0 win on Sunday. Doughty hit his eighth double of the season, and Peyton Williams hit his first triple of the year. Bohrofen and Williams had two-hit days. Devereaux Harrison had a strong start, going five and one-third innings with six strikeouts.
This week, the Fisher Cats return home to host the Somerset Patriots for a six-game series.

Canadians are on a franchise-best 10-game win streak

Despite the first half coming down to the wire, the Vancouver Canadians keep winning. Friday saw them mash Spokane 15-0, with Je’Von Ward and Sean Keys each hitting a double, while Jackson Hornung hit two doubles. Every starter had a hit in this game, with Victor Arias hitting three singles. Chris McElvain made the start, going four innings with three strikeouts. Aaron Munson pitched three clean innings, and Jonathan Todd struck out two in two innings of work.
On Saturday, the Canadians extended their winning streak to nine games with a 6-1 victory. Hornung hit his third home run of the season, Arjun Nimmala hit his second triple of the season, and Cutter Coffey hit his 11th double of the season. Fernando Perez had a good start, pitching six innings and giving up one earned run while striking out five.
The Canadians broke their franchise record with a 3-2 win on Sunday, extending their winning streak to 10 games. Aaron Parker hit his fifth home run and 11th double of the season, while Coffey also hit a double. These were the only three hits of the game. Khal Stephen made the start, going five innings and giving up one earned run. Pat Gallagher struck out three and walked three in his two innings of work, and J.J. Sanchez struck out three and gave up an earned run in his two innings of work.
This week, the Canadians head to Eugene to face the Emeralds for a six-game series; only the first three of those games count towards the first half. The Canadians have a one-game lead over the Everett AquaSox, but lost the first tiebreaker, meaning the Canadians’ method of clinching at the moment is three more wins.

D-Jays win the final four games of their series

The Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays lost their first game of the series as rain enabled them to play just one game. They won 3-2 in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader, with Tucker Toman hitting a double. Kendry Rojas made a rehab appearance, pitching a scoreless inning. Austin Cates pitched the bulk of the game, going four innings with a walk and two strikeouts.

Edward Duran and Jacob Lojewski hit doubles. Silvano Hechavarria pitched four and one-third innings, with five strikeouts. Eminen Flores struck out three in his two innings of work.
Sunday was set to be a doubleheader, but the D-Jays played just five innings, defeating the Mighty Mussels 3-0.
