The 2026 season starts in a little over a week.
On Monday afternoon, the Toronto Blue Jays made some more roster cuts. They optioned Jonatan Clase, while sending top prospects Sean Keys, Charles McAdoo, Arjun Nimmala, and Javen Coleman to the Minor League camp. Additionally, Michael Plassmeyer and Geovanny Planchart were also sent to the Minor League camp.
It was a rough Spring Training for Clase, as the switch-hitting outfielder slashed just .261/.308/.391 with a double and a triple in 26 plate appearances. Still, he’ll likely see some time with the Blue Jays at some point in 2026, as he’s gotten a look with them the last two seasons. Hopefully, he can start to show some power in Triple-A.
Moving to the top prospects, Keys slashed .207/.324/.379 with a home run in 34 plate appearances, with four walks and 10 strikeouts. It wasn’t a particularly great spring for the third baseman, as he’ll likely start his 2026 with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Nimmala, a top three Blue Jays’ prospect, didn’t have a great Spring Training either. Over 30 plate appearances, he slashed .240/.367/.280 with no home runs. His lone extra-base hit was a double, as he struck out nine times over those 30 plate appearances. Like Keys, there’s a chance Nimmala begins the season with the Fisher Cats.
McAdoo also struggled in Spring Training, slashing just .200/.273/.367 with a home run in 33 plate appearances for a 64 wRC+. The third baseman will surely get some time at first base and in the outfield this season. There’s a chance he reaches as high as Triple-A this season.
Of the four top prospects assigned to the Minor League camp, Coleman had the best showing. Over six and two-thirds innings pitched, the left-handed reliever didn’t allow an earned run with a 3.67 FIP. The Fisher Cats is where he’ll likely start the 2026 season.
Planchart, 24, was signed to a minor league deal by the Blue Jays in December for minor league depth. Last season was spent with the Pittsburgh Pirates’ High-A team, with the highest level he reached being Double-A. He didn’t get a hit in his seven plate appearances this Spring Training.
As for Plassmeyer, the left-handed reliever appeared in six games, posting a 3.38 ERA and 1.42 FIP. He finished with a 25 K% and 0 BB% and he spent his 2025 season with the Texas Rangers’ Triple-A team in 2025. Plassmeyer has big league experience, pitching 11 innings between the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
