Charles McAdoo is another prospect that the Toronto Blue Jays acquired before the 2024 trade deadline who has a chance to impact the team positively in the coming seasons.
This is Blue Jays Nation’s bi-annual prospect ranking, where we’ll look at the top 35 prospects in the system in the month of February. As always, I’ll look at the player’s stats, what other publications have to say, as well as my own observations of the players. If you missed the 17th-ranked prospect, you can read about Silvano Hechavarria here.
Getting to know Charles McAdoo…
Position: Third base
Bats: Right
Born: March 6th, 2002
Acquired: Trade with Pittsburgh Pirates
Previous ranking: 12th
McAdoo spent three seasons at San Jose State, slashing .325/.409/.543 with 10 home runs in 269 plate appearances during his senior season in 2023. With the 377th overall pick, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected the third baseman, and he promptly made his professional debut, slashing .302/.412/.510, belting five home runs in 114 plate appearances in Single-A.
It was in the 2024 season where McAdoo really made a name for himself. Beginning the season with the Pirates’ High-A team, he slashed .336/.415/.561 with nine home runs in 258 plate appearances, with a 10.5 BB% and 21.7 K%. He earned a call-up to Double-A, where he slashed .269/.347/.490 with five home runs in 118 plate appearances.
On trade deadline day 2024, the Pirates sent McAdoo to the Blue Jays for Isiah Kiner-Falefa, a move that worked out well considering that Kiner-Falefa was waived towards the end of the 2025 season, with the Jays picking him up for the World Series push.
McAdoo slashed just .185/.287/.323 with three home runs in 143 plate appearances with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats after the trade. That slow start also plagued him to begin the 2025 season, as he slashed .193/.273/.261 with a home run and a 36.4 K% in 132 plate appearances from the start of the season until May 18th in New Hampshire. The Jays placed McAdoo on the development list, and he was a whole new player once he returned.
From May 27th until the end of the season, the third baseman slashed .267/.336/.469 with 15 home runs, 19 doubles, and a triple in 362 plate appearances for a 132 wRC+. McAdoo also dropped his strikeout rate to 24.6% during this stretch. As a whole, he slashed .247/.318/.413 with 16 home runs in 494 plate appearances, with a 27.7 K% and 113 wRC+.
Heading into the season, McAdoo ranked as Fangraphs’ 37th-best Blue Jays prospect, with a below-average hit tool, average game power, and plus raw power. Defensively, he’s a below-average defender who has played third, first, and some corner outfield. In MLB Pipeline’s mid-season update, they were a little more optimistic on his hit tool, giving it a 45 as opposed to Fangraphs’ 35-grade.
McAdoo is likely to begin his 2026 season in Double-A, solely because the Blue Jays have so many infielders set to begin their season for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. That said, it wouldn’t be surprising to see McAdoo make his way to the Bisons if he has a good start to his season.
