What a breakout year it has been for Toronto Blue Jays prospect Jay Harry.
The Buffalo Bisons began a six-game trip to Des Moines, Iowa beginning on Tuesday, defeating the Iowa Cubs 11-10 in 10 innings. As has been the case for most games that Harry has participated in this season, he was the standout player.
With the game knotted up at one in the top of the fifth, the Bisons got two runners on, and up stepped Harry with two outs. On the second pitch of the plate appearances, Harry got a hold of a 92.7 mph four-seam fastball, driving it 379 feet with the homer coming 102.2 mph off the bat.
That was his 10th home run of the season, becoming the fifth player in the organization to reach double-digit bombs. Harry was joined by another player later in the day, but we’ll get to that later. On top of the home run, Harry also hit his fifth double since joining the Bisons, as well as a single for a three-hit game.
Between the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Triple-A Bisons, Harry is slashing .330/.356/.592 with 10 long balls, 16 doubles, and four triples in 217 plate appearances, good for a 144 wRC+. Harry, acquired for Trevor Richards before the 2024 trade deadline, really came out of nowhere.

Other notes…

Harry was the Bisons’ best performer, but there were a handful of other notable names. Sean Keys hit his fifth double, and Charles McAdoo hit his seventh. Je’Von Ward hit his seventh home run since joining the Bisons, but no one had a bigger hit than Carlos Mendoza.
Down two and with two outs remaining, the utility player went deep to tie the game up at eight. That set up the second biggest home run of the game, as Willie MacIver hit his third home run since the trade, giving the Bisons their eventual game-winning run.
Also reaching the double-digit home run club this season is 2023 rule 5 minor league pickup, Alexis Hernandez. The outfielder hit two home runs for the High-A Vancouver Canadians, giving him 11 for the season. Unfortunately, the C’s lost that game 7-6.
Peyton Williams hit his second home run in as many days, while J.R. Freethy hit his 12th double of the season. Nolan Perry had a tough outing on the mound, allowing three earned runs over three innings of  work, striking out four to bring his High-A ERA to 3.23.
Victor Arias had a whale of a game in the Fisher Cats’ 4-0 victory. On top of hitting his sixth home run at the level, the centre fielder hit two doubles, driving in three of the Fisher Cats’ four runs, coming in to score the other one. Jorge Burgos also hit a double, his 15th of the season.
On the mound, Jackson Wentworth threw a quality start, going six scoreless innings with three hits allowed, three walks, and five strikeouts. Geison Urbaez, Yondrei Rojas, and Javen Coleman all threw a scoreless inning.
The last of the “A” affiliates, the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays, fell 3-1 to the Tampa Tarpons. All five of their hits were singles. Blaine Bullard, Ismael Munguia, JoJo Parker, Juan Sanchez, and Adam Hackenberg each hit one, with Hackenberg driving in the D-Jays’ lone run. Lenyn Sosa made a rehab start, going 0-3 with two strikeouts.
Carson Messina was the team’s best performer, striking out four over four hitless innings. However, the walk he allowed to lead-off the top of the second stole second, advanced to third on an error, and came in to score on a sacrifice fly.
In the rookie leagues, the Florida Complex League Blue Jays defeated the FCL Phillies 5-1, while both Dominican Summer League teams dropped their games. The big hit of the FCL Jays’ victory came courtesy of David Guzman, hitting a grand slam, just one of two hits the FCL Jays hit. On the mound, Seojun Moon had a solid outing, striking out six over three and two-thirds of one-run ball.
The DSL Blue Jays Blue fell 13-3 to the DSL Arizona Black. Both Juan Caricote and Sebastian Casanova hit two singles in what was an offence-starved game. It didn’t go better for the DSL Blue Jays Red, falling 1-0 to the DSL Arizona Red, mustering just one hit. Alieski Torres, Adrian Moreta, Fayon Dumorne, and Juan Ramirez all had solid outings, though they combined for just four strikeouts.
