Toronto Blue Jays’ shortstop prospect JoJo Parker has been terrific in June.
Last week, the Blue Jays’ eighth overall pick in 2025 hit three home runs in the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays’ series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. After a quiet series opener, Parker managed to hit his fourth home run in his last six games on Wednesday evening.
Over 60 games this season, Parker is slashing .248/.376/.441 with eight home runs in 271 plate appearances, good for a 121 wRC+. He has also posted a 15.5 BB% and 25.1 K%. But in June, the 19-year-old is now slashing .290/.384/.629 with five of those eight home runs in 73 plate appearances, good for a 155 wRC+. Moreover, his K% in this stretch is just 20.5%.
At this point, it would be shocking to not see Parker make his High-A debut with the Vancouver Canadians. He’s been solid as a whole, but this past month has shown he’s figured out Single-A pitching.
Selecting eighth overall, the Jays needed to find a gem with this pick, and it looks like they have with Parker.
Other notes…
Despite the Parker home run, it wasn’t a positive day in the Blue Jays organization on Wednesday. The D-Jays lost that game 9-3, with Blaine Bullard hitting his 11th double of the season in that game. That was about it for the positives, as their hitters struck out 14 times and their pitchers struggled.
Similarly, there were some positives regarding the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons in what ended up being an 18-11 defeat. Sean Keys hit two home runs, matching and surpassing his output from last season. Jonatan Clase also hit a home run, his fifth, while C.J. Stubbs hit his second home run in Triple-A this season. Jay Harry hit a double, his sixth since joining the Bisons. Jake Bloss had a tough start, giving up five earned runs in three and one-third innings.
A positive from the High-A Canadians’ game was Johnny King’s start, as he went five innings of one-run ball, striking out six and walking just one. The C’s attempted a late rally, drawing five consecutive two-out walks in the top of the ninth, but ultimately fell 4-2.
Johnny King struck out six over five one-run innings last night. He generated 17 whiffs on 43 total swings, and six of them came in the third inning. Here's all the swings he generated in the third.
Those three games had positives, the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ 10-2 defeat against the Somerset Patriots did not. Hedbert Perez walked three times, and Nick Goodwin hit his third triple of the season. That’s about it. Their offence has really cooled off in June.
Thursday is a new day, at least.
