As expected, Eloy Jiménez has cleared waivers.
This comes according to the Toronto Blue Jays themselves, announcing it on Saturday evening. Jiménez had recently been designated for assignment to free up a 26-man roster spot for the returning George Springer.
The 29-year-old signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays toward the end of the 2025 season after being released by the Tampa Bay Rays. He signed another minor league deal with the Blue Jays before the start of the season, which came with an invite to Spring Training.
Jiménez had impressive spring training, slashing .286/.333/.524 with two home runs, four doubles, and three RBIs. But with no room on the roster, he was sent down to Triple-A and ended up hitting a home run and five RBI in six games with the Buffalo Bisons.
The designated hitter was selected to the Blue Jays roster on April 12th after George Springer suffered a fracture toe. In 12 games with the Blue Jays this season, Jiménez slashed .290/.343/.290 with three RBIs in 31 at-bats.
