Following the 2026 MLB Draft, in which the Toronto Blue Jays selected nine pitchers, the club dipped into the undrafted free agent pool and added four more arms to the organization.
The Blue Jays signed Reese Bassinger, Dax Dathe, Devon King, and Gavin Seebold to undrafted free agent contracts as the club continues to stock the cupboards full of arms that possessed enough talent to represent schools in the NCAA.
Reece Bassinger
Bassinger spent the past two seasons at the University of West Virginia after transferring from Tarleton State following the 2023 season. The right-hander pitched in 31 games with the Mountaineers this season and went 4-3 with a 3.30 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. Bassinger tossed 60 innings in 2026 and was able to punch out 64 batters across that span while also picking up two saves.
In three NCAA seasons, Bassinger pitched in 88 games (one start) and went 16-6 with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Bassinger reaches the mid-90s with his fastball and has a slider that sits in the low 80s. With his strong 2026 season, Bassinger earned himself an All-Big 12 Honourable Mention.
Dax Dathe
Dathe was signed by the Blue Jays after spending the past four seasons in the NCAA, with his final year coming at Louisiana State University. Last season with the Tigers, Dathe worked in 12 games and tossed only 6.1 innings, posting an 8.53 ERA and a 2.05 WHIP.
While Dathe’s action was limited in 2026, the right-hander put together a strong 2025 season while pitching at Angelo State University. Dathe pitched in 15 games (13 starts) and went 8-1 with a 2.99 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP before committing to LSU. Dathe picked up 98 strikeouts in his 72.1 frames, relying on a fastball that reached 95 MPH to go along with a low-80s slider.
For his work during the 2025 season, Dathe was named to the All-Lone Star Conference First Team. Over his four NCAA seasons, Dathe pitched in 50 games (26 starts) and went 17-5 with a 4.37 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.
Devon King
The Blue Jays signed King after he pitched three seasons at the University of California, San Diego. In three seasons with the Tritons, King pitched in 54 games and went 3-0 with a 5.21 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP.
King’s 2026 season was his best to date as the right-hander went 3-0 with a 3.48 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. Over 33.2 innings pitched, King struck out 37 batters, walked 11, and held opposing teams to a sparkling .197 average.
Gavin Seebold
Another NCAA free-agent reliever the Blue Jays signed following the draft was the University of Indiana’s Gavin Seebold. Seebold spent the past two seasons at Indiana after previously pitching for the University of Southern Indiana.

In 17 games with the Hoosiers last season, Seebold went 2-4 with a 4.67 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. The right-hander picked up two saves in his 44.1 innings pitched and posted a 27.9% strikeout rate during the 2026 campaign. Seebold brings a fastball that sits around 93-94 MPH and a slider that gets into the mid-80s to the Blue Jays’ organization.
In his four NCAA seasons, Seebold pitched in 63 games (24 starts) and went 14-15 with a 5.75 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. Over his 208 innings pitched, the 24-year-old struck out 189 batters and walked 91.
