Matt Chapman is back in the Toronto Blue Jays lineup.
The third baseman draws back in after missing the last three games with soreness in his left wrist. The Jays are preparing for game two of their four-game set gainst the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday night.
A few more important notes: Cavan Biggio will play second base, while Santiago Espinal gets a day off. Gabriel Moreno, meanwhile, will draw in behind the plate catching for Yusei Kikuchi.
To top it off, the club announced right-handed reliever Jullian Merryweather was heading to the 15-day IL with a left abdominal strain, while RHP Jeremy Beasley was recalled from Triple-A and would be active tonight.
It’s a tough break for Merryweather who has been struggling out of the pen this year with a 6.38 ERA across 18.1 innings pitched. During Monday night’s game against the Orioles, Merryweather drew into the game at the top of the seventh. Ryan Mountcastle grounded out to third before Adley Rutschman singled to get on base.
Tyler Nevin came to the plate and struck out, before Erik Stowers doubled to deep left off a 95-mph four-seam fastball. But as soon as Merryweather let the ball go, he reached to the left-side of his body before immediately leaving the game.
Beasley, meanwhile, has appeared in four innings across three games this year with the Blue Jays posting a 6.75 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP.
