So that’s not great news.

On Monday evening, it was reported by numerous sources that the Blue Jays were adding Yimi García on the 15-day Injured List due to right elbow ulnar neuritis. To replace him, the Blue Jays added Brandon Eisert to the 40-man roster and he’ll be active in Monday’s game.

This is a pretty big loss for the Jays. García, 33, has been terrific for Toronto this season, posting a 2.57 ERA and a 2.87 FIP in 28 innings pitched, along with a 34.6 K% and a 6.5 BB%. It’s been a rough go of things for the righty since May 26 though, as he has a 7 ERA and a 4.15 FIP in nine innings since the game against the Tigers, along with a 33.3 K% and a 2.6 BB%.
With Jordan Romano’s injury, ironically also due to an elbow, García was the de facto closer for the team, picking up three of his five saves since Romano’s most recent Injured List stint (as well as two in mid-April).

A big reason for the Blue Jays struggles in 2024 has come down to the bullpen. The Blue Jays bullpen has a 4.69 ERA this season, which isn’t so nice as it’s the fourth worst in the league. Their 4.91 FIP is the worst in the league as well as the 1.58 HR/9 ratio is the highest in the league by a wide margin.
That is partially due to injury as well, as Chad Green, Yimi García, Jordan Romano, and Erik Swanson have spent time on the injured list, with all four set to be important high-leverage relievers for the Jays in 2024. Instead, they&#8217;ve had to rely on guys like Nate Pearson, Zach Pop, Ryan Burr, and a few other AAAA relievers.
As for Brandon Eisert, the 26-year-old left-handed pitcher was selected in the 18th round of the 2019 draft and has spent the last three seasons in Triple-A after skyrocketing up the minor league ladder.
With the Bisons, Eisert has a 6.35 ERA and a 4.28 FIP in 22.2 innings pitched along with a 33 K% and a 13.2 BB%, but let’s take a deeper look at that. In his game of the season, Eisert gave up an insane seven runs in the two thirds of an inning to give him a 94.50 ERA. Since April 1, Eisert has a 3.68 ERA and a 3.08 FIP in 22 innings pitched, along with a 35.1 K% and a 13.4 BB%.
Hopefully, Eisert can have a good showing for himself in the next few weeks.
