The Toronto Blue Jays have made their first deal of the day acquiring relievers Anthony Bass and Zach Pop from the Miami Marlins.

In exchange, the Blue Jays are sending back prospect shortstop Jordan Groshans.

Bass, 34, has thrown 42.2 innings this year posting a 1.41 ERA, 2.06 FIP while striking out 9.1 batters per nine innings with a 26.0 K%. He returns to the Jays having played there in 2020, where he worked as the club&#8217;s closer appearing in 25.2 innings with a 3.51 ERA. Bass&#8217;s baseball savant profile looks great with all of his key percentile ratings in the top 25% of the league.
He has a team option for $ 3 million next year.
Pop, 25, is a native of nearby Brampton and has appeared in 74.2 innings so far in his career in the bigs. He&#8217;s posted a 3.98 ERA, a 2.82 FIP, and a K% of 19.8. He&#8217;s reliant on two pitches: a sinker which he throws 83.2% of the time, and a slider 16.4% of the time.
Lastly, Groshans, 22, was taken by the Jays 12th overall in 2018 and ranked as Baseball America&#8217;s No. 34 prospect in 2021, but fell off the list ahead of 2022. He&#8217;s slashed a .250/.348/.296 line in 67 games for Triple-A Buffalo this season.
