Donaldson and Gibbons “feud” over boombox, Spring Training drama is dumb

Ah, Spring Training! It’s where we focus on the process and the results of the games don’t really matter.
Honestly, I can’t tell you what the Jays Grapefruit League record is, all I know is that it isn’t very good. In the spring, especially the first few weeks, it’s just about the sights and sounds: the crack of the bat, the pop of the mitt, how the players look while finally in the best shape of their lives, and obviously obnoxiously loud boom boxes.
This morning, Jeff Blair went on the radio to talk about some “drama” – and I use that term lightly – between John Gibbons and Josh Donaldson. The story is that the Blue Jays weren’t using their loud speakers during batting practice today due to testing going on at a nearby school, prompting JD to do what he does and lug out his own boom box onto the field. Gibbons apparently took the boom box back to the clubhouse and Donaldson followed him, which can only make one wonder what kind of royal rumble took place behind the scenes. Thankfully, Faizal Khamisa somewhat cleared everything up.
Scrolling my TL and the reaction on Twitter is pretty much what you’d expect, ranging from “holy shit, who cares?” to something along the lines of Gibbons losing the room. I mean, these guys “got into it” at Yankee Stadium two years ago and things have been fine since. Every so often, Gibbons needs to waddle over to somebody and lay down the law. Follow every person on this team every moment for an entire season and you’ll probably find stupider fights than one over loud music.
Usually I hate talk of clubhouse leadership, as I’m a voice from outside and have no clue what’s going on there, but you can tell that Donaldson is one of the guys in the room that marches to the beat his own drum. The thought of him hearing the silence during BP, then getting pissed off and grabbing his boom box, only for Gibby to take it away from him is hilarious. What I really want to know is if it was the volume, or the shit that Donaldson was playing that made Gibbons take it away. We know that John Gibbons is as laid back as they come, but maybe the music was a bit too much for 9 AM on a Tuesday morning for him. We’ve already made this a story, we need answers.
Don’t let all this radio talk distract you from the fact that bullpen cars are back. We’re only a few weeks away from the Blue Jays debuting these bad boys and somebody stealing one to take on a Marshawn Lynch-esque joyride around the Rogers Centre outfield.
EDIT: It turns out Josh Donaldson is a fan of Lil Uzi Vert! Hahahaha Josh Donaldson the fucking best.
