Things worth mentioning

• Jaime Garcia got rocked again, giving up six earned runs and not even making it out of the fourth innings. In just three May starts, he’s already up to 13 earned runs in 12 innings. What worries me most is the fact that he’s also issued ten walks. He looks like the New York Yankees version of himself right now, and if the Blue Jays actually had any SP depth, he’d be walking on thin ice.
• Even though the Mets blew the game open in the fourth and won by ten runs, the Blue Jays thankfully managed to not blow through their bullpen. I mean, the other two pitchers that came in after Garcia also got hit hard, but at least it was none of the big guys. Speaking of, old and new friend Deck McGuire made his Blue Jays debut, ten years after he was drafted by them with three stops in other minor league systems. He was, well, not very good, but at least he did better than Garcia. Oh, he also managed to get one of the Blue Jays six hits on the night, a 104 MPH screaming single in the eighth. I’m happy he finally got to suit up for the team even though he was taken two picks before C- never mind.
• I’m trying not to do this, but Noah Syndergaard threw five innings and struck out seven. He allowed two runs, which could be a moral victory if you ignore the fact that he knocked in two of his own. I can’t wait to read your comments!
• Once the game got out of hand, Russell Martin played shortstop. It’s kind of like in house league when the star player or coach’s son just does what he wants because the game is pretty much irrelevant at that point. I’d like to see him field all nine positions – yes, including pitcher – one night where the team is really getting pummelled. Entertainment value!
