The Toronto Blue Jays are set as home favorites on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com as they open a series against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles on Friday night at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, with a consensus total of 10.5 runs for the contest.
Since June 2018, the Blue Jays are 14-5 in their last 19 games against the Orioles as a home favorite at sports betting sites. They are 5-4 in nine home games this season at Sahlen Field, with the total finishing OVER six times. Also of note, while it is a small sample size, the Blue Jays have out-homered opponents 24-10 across nine home starts at Sahlen Field.
Lefthander Hyun-Jin Ryu (2-1, 3.19 ERA, 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings) had been scheduled to start on Thursday night against the Boston Red Sox at Sahlen Field, with that contest postponed. Ryu last took the mound on August 22 at Tampa Bay, surrendering just a single run on three hits over his five innings of work. Ryu has struck out 33 batters while walking just nine on the season, and he’s allowed one or fewer runs in each of his past four outings.
John Means (0-2, 10.13 ERA, 6.8 SO/9) had been in line to start for the Orioles on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Rays, with that game also postponed. The lefthander has struggled this season, giving up three runs in just three innings of work in his last outing on August 21 against the Red Sox. He’s allowed 12 earned runs in 10.2 innings. The Orioles are 2-7 in Means’ last nine starts as an away underdog, with the UNDER hitting nine times.
Righthanders Tanner Roark (2-1, 4.91 ERA, 7.0 SO/9) and Chase Anderson (0-0, 3.68 ERA, 6.1 SO/9) are also expected to take the mound for Toronto during the four-game series, which runs until Monday afternoon. Roark is struggling to limit bases on balls and home runs – to the count of a 6.34 FIP (fielding-independent pitching) – and his teams are 3-9 in his last 12 starts as a home favorite. The total has gone UNDER in three of Anderson’s four starts for the Blue Jays, but historically, his teams are only 10-10 in his last 20 starts as a home favorite.
For the Orioles, Alex Cobb (1-2, 3.73 ERA, 6.3 SO/9) and Tommy Milone (1-4, 3.99 ERA, 9.5 SO/9) would be next in line after Means in the rotation. Cobb’s teams are 6-6 in his 12 career starts against Toronto, although he has a 4.87 ERA in 68.1 career innings against the Blue Jays, and the Orioles are 6-2 in Cobb’s last eight starts as a road underdog. Milone’s teams are 2-8 in his last 10 starts as a road underdog, with the OVER hitting on the total six times.
The Blue Jays then begin the month of September with a six-game road trip, playing two games against the Miami Marlins and then four games against the Boston Red Sox.
