The long-term trends seem to be signaling that the Toronto Blue Jays might stay in their pattern of playing in higher-scoring games, although they have a tough pitching matchup on Tuesday.
The Blue Jays are the +149 home underdog (bet $100 to win $149) while the Boston Red Sox are a -159 away favorite (bet $159 to win $100) with a 9.5-run total on the MLB betting lines for Tuesday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The OddsShark MLB Database shows that the Blue Jays are 4-13 in their last 17 games as a home underdog, with the total going OVER in 11 of those contests. The Red Sox are 16-4 in their last 20 away games against Toronto, with the total finishing OVER in seven of the most recent eight.

Toronto’s last 10 homes have had an average total of 11.2, while Boston’s last 10 away games have had an average total of 10.4.
For the opener of this three-game series, the Blue Jays are starting righthander Trent Thornton (2-5, 4.60 ERA), who has had the total go OVER in five of his seven home starts. Thornton, who didn’t get past the fourth inning of his most recent start, will have the test of keeping Red Sox hitters off-balance the second time around after pitching against them in a recent series. The Blue Jays should have a rested bullpen as neither closer Ken Giles nor eighth-inning reliever Daniel Hudson has worked in the last two days.
Boston will counter with the veteran lefthander David Price (5-2, 3.36 ERA), whose teams are 11-1 in his 12 career away starts against Toronto, with the total going OVER nine out of 12 times at sports betting sites. Marcus Stroman (5-9, 3.18 ERA) is slated to start on Thursday after leaving his most recent start on Saturday with a left shoulder pectoral cramp. Stroman has a commendable 3.44 ERA in 14 career starts against Boston. The Red Sox have not named a starter.
Following the Boston series, the Blue Jays host a three-game set against the Baltimore Orioles before heading into the all-star break.
