The absence of an announced starting pitcher aside – following an off-day, no less – the Toronto Blue Jays have some favorable history at home against their next opponent.
The Blue Jays are the -120 home favorite (wager $120 to win $100) while the Kansas City Royals are a +100 home underdog (wager $100 to win $100) with a 9.0-run total on the MLB odds for Friday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
The OddsShark MLB Database shows that the Blue Jays are 12-5 in their last 17 regular-season home games against the Royals, with a down-the-middle 8-8-1 split on totals. The Royals, who are also in a retooling phase, are 2-10 this season as an away underdog of +100 to +150 on the moneyline.
Royals at Blue Jays | OddsShark Matchup Report
The total has gone OVER in six of the Blue Jays’ last nine home games, with an average total of 11.1 runs. The total has gone OVER in just four of the Royals’ last 10 away games, with an average total of 8.7 runs.
While it might be a bullpen day for the Blue Jays, the Royals are giving the start to lefthander Danny Duffy, who has a 3-3 record with a 4.48 earned-run average in 11 starts this season. The Blue Jays are 12-17 against lefty starters this season.
Marcus Stroman (5-9, 3.04 ERA) and Homer Bailey (7-6, 4.61 ERA) are the scheduled starting pitchers for Saturday. Stroman has a 1.89 ERA over his last three starts but Bailey has been even more airtight; his ERA over his last three starts is a stingy 0.47.
Aaron Sanchez (3-10, 5.89 ERA) starts opposite the Royals’ Brad Keller (3-9, 4.32 ERA) on Sunday. The total has gone UNDER in both five of Sanchez’s last seven home starts as well as six out of Keller’s last eight away starts.
Left-hander Clayton Richard (0-4, 6.89 ERA) starts for the Blue Jays on Monday against righty Glenn Sparkman (2-3, 4.07 ERA). Toronto is 2-5 in Richard’s seven starts but the total has been either UNDER or a push five times.
Friday’s game is the start of a 10-game Blue Jays homestand which will continue next week with three-game series against the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles.
