As a Toronto fan, I’ve pretty much had enough of Boston sports teams.

What happened?

On Friday, the Blue Jays beat the Red Sox 5-3 in 12 innings. Luke Maile hit a game-tying home run off of Chris Sale in the seventh and then won it with a two-run walk off jack in the 12th.
Marco Estrada pitched a bit better on Saturday, but still struggled, giving up four earned runs over six innings.
Sunday saw Joe Biagini get another start, and it went just like his other ones did. The Blue Jays were in a 4-0 hole, made it 4-3, and ended up losing the game 5-3.

Thoughts

  • Once again, the starters struggled and once again, the bullpen has looked great. On Friday, they took over from Aaron Sanchez and threw seven scoreless innings, including three from newcomer Sam Gaviglio. I’m still not sure the starters being this bad is sustainable, but I fear all of these innings logged will do some real damage.
  • Related, Joe Biagini didn’t look all that great on Sunday afternoon. It’s almost as if there’s a long-relief need in the bullpen right now. How much longer are they going to stick with Biagini starting?
  • If you’re a glass half full person, I’m happy to tell you that Kendrys Morales reached base four times in two games this series. If you’re a glass half empty person, I’ll remind you that his OPS midway through May is .525.

Up next

On Tuesday, the Blue Jays begin a mini two-game series in New York against the Mets who are just 7-10 at home this season.
