Series Recap: SWEEP

After rain battered pretty much the entire northeastern part of the United States and caused many postponed games over the weekend, the Blue Jays returned dom-er, home to face the Kansas City Royals for a three game series. I just want to say how great it is that they play at the Rogers Centre and we’ll never have to call a game due to weather. Imagine being a fan of one of those other tea- there’s a hole in the roof.
What Happened

On Tuesday, DOUBLEHEADER! In game one, Jaime Garcia battled through five innings and the Blue Jays scored six runs in the sixth to pull ahead for good and crush KC 11-3. In game two, Joe Biagini survived a rough start and Toronto had another big inning, using a four-run seventh to erase a 3-0 deficit. They won 5-4 in the 10th thanks to a Luke Maile walkoff single.
On Wednesday, the Blue Jays played a late afternoon game that was streamed on Facebook, for some reason. The bats came alive again with yet another massive inning, putting up six runs in the 8th thanks in large part to a Curtis Granderson grand slam. The Blue Jays thoroughly pummeled the Royals 15-5.
Thoughts
- This team can get a rally going out of nowhere. Look at the second game on Wednesday as an example: down three in the seventh, the first three hitters, including Randal Grichuk and Kevin Pillar, walked. The three after that, Luke Maile, Devon Travis, and Steve Pearce, singled. It seemed as if all series the Blue Jays had multiple guys on base at all times. The bottom of the lineup provided nothing all season in 2017, now it looks like guys like Diaz/Grichuk/Maile/whoever the hell Gibbons puts there not named Ngoepe won’t be a liability at the plate.
- Speaking of Maile, holy shit, what a series. He went 4-6, scoring three runs and knocking in four, including the game winner on Tuesday night. The hype is so strong right now, somebody’s question on that dumb Facebook interactive game was why John Gibbons won’t just go with Maile over Russell Martin. Listen, I’m willing to listen to stupid arguments as long as this team continues to bat around and win ballgames. Also, I want to see Lukey Barrels be a thing.
- The Blue Jays elected to go with Biagini in game two of the doubleheader rather than use one of their current 1-5 starters. Not only did they win games that was started by their 5-6 guys, it also lets them not do this against the Yankees. Good call!
- The Blue Jays are 12-5! #ActuallyGood yet?! We’ll ask again after the Yankees series.
