The Blue Jays drop some more City Connect uniform hints

There aren’t many positives about the Toronto Blue Jays right now, so to avoid having a cry about how depressing this team is right now, why not focus on something else? Like the City Connect uniforms … that should make people forget how poorly this team is playing.
On Thursday, the team will release their 2024 City Connect threads. Earlier this month, I broke down a few breadcrumbs the Blue Jays may have planted about some design possibilities, but the latest teaser video unearthed even more ideas for these City Connects.
Along with the low-hanging fruit of shoehorning the CN Tower into the jersey design, it now appears there will be some sort of TTC homage in the design as well. Shots of subways are sprinkled throughout the teaser video.
But my new theory is now pivoting towards some sort of TTC subway line colours woven into the uniform itself. Who knows, there could be subway line piping on the sleeves, or maybe it’s the design of the actual TTC Toronto map itself somehow.
A little later in the video, we see vibrant coloured fireworks, notably with blue and a red or orange featured first. These colours are way different from the first purple-based colour palette I thought might be prominent in these jerseys.
In fact, the purple is absent from this newest video, so maybe it was a red herring the first time around? Then there’s another shot of the Toronto skyline, this time with green and yellow fireworks.
Later on in the video, this green and yellow combination make another appearance, but this time with a hint of blue lights in the background.
But perhaps the biggest clue in this brief 12 second video is the shot of the Princes’ Gates at the Canadian National Exhibition. The shot cycles through several colours, each “vibrant” as described in the video title.
You’ve got blue, green, orange, pink, yellow, light blue (and maybe red in there too. It’s hard to tell if it’s another shade or orange).
The green, yellow and the pink colours seem to mimic the Yonge-University, Bloor Danforth and Shepperd Lines. The red may be an homage to the streetcar lines as well. There’s a chance the blue might be the closed down Scarborough line, but who knows?

Another obscure theory about these colours is they could be connected to Caribana. That would fall under the descriptors of “bright” and “vibrant”, which is mentioned in the Blue Jays video caption.
Having a Caribana tie-in would explain all those colours above, as the subway line colours don’t all quite match up with the orange and dark blue lights under the Princes’ Gates.
The Toronto skyline makes yet another appearance, now with Rogers Centre visible in the shot. But there’s no way you can see the dome in the skyline now since it’s surrounded by condos and high-rise buildings.
Then the second version of the skyline flashes ever so briefly, looking a little more like what a realistic 2024 Toronto skyline would be today.
And one last interesting thing to note is the letter “X” is in the bottom right corner near the end of the video. I haven’t the faintest idea what this means or what the significance (if any) the letter X plays in this uniform, but it’s worth pointing out.
Lastly, the blue gradient makes a reappearance at the end, just like it did in the last video, except with a different hue of blue this go-around.
Just a few days ago, /u/No_Name6391 on Reddit shared some photos that might be the leaked Blue Jays City Connect cap design. The inside band of the cap has a silhouette of the Toronto skyline in red.
Uni Watch’s Paul Lukas seems to think the cap is legit, but I’m still hoping for something a little flashier for the Blue Jays City Connect cap. It looks a little too basic to me and shoehorning the maple leaf into the design is an obvious choice to make. I’m interested to see if the uniforms will have that same dark blue denim-like colour as well.
It seems inevitable there will be some sort of TTC tie-in to the Blue Jays City Connect uniforms. For the rest of those landmarks and colours featured, I’m not too sure, but we will find out soon enough when they make the uniforms public on Thursday.
