The Toronto Blue Jays will look to complete the sweep when they travel to The Bronx to take on the New York Yankees in Game 3 of their American League Division Series at Yankee Stadium.
The Blue Jays bludgeoned the Yankees over the first two games, scoring an incredible 23 runs to take a 2-0 strangle in the best-of-five series.
Toronto will turn to veteran right-hander Shane Bieber to try and finish off the series. Bieber went 4-2 with a 3.57 ERA and 37 strikeouts in seven starts after the Blue Jays acquired him from the Cleveland Guardians at the MLB trade deadline.
Bieber is no stranger to facing the Yankees in the postseason. He struggled in a home start against New York during the 2020 playoffs, allowing seven runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings. Bieber was much better in New York during a start in the 2022 ALDS, pitching into the sixth inning, while allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts.
The Yankees are countering with left-hander Carlos Rodón to try and keep their season alive. Rodón rose to the occasion in Game 2 of New York’s wild-card series against the Boston Red Sox, throwing six solid innings with five strikeouts in a quality start. He will look to keep the Blue Jays off balance with his fastball, slider, and changeup. Rodón was an excellent strikeout pitcher during the season, but he only had eight punch-outs in 10 innings against the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays are looking for their first sweep of a postseason series since dispatching the Texas Rangers in three games in the 2016 ALDS.
