Last but not least, the Blue Jays Nation Top 25 Canadian Baseball prospects lands at #1, with a notable outfielder leading all Canuck prospects heading into the new campaign.

#1 – Owen Caissie

Hometown: Burlington, ON
Organization: Miami Marlins
Draft: Round 2, 2020 (SDP)
Position: OF
Bats/Throws: L/R
Standing in the number one spot for the 2026 Blue Jays Nation top 25 Canadian prospects list is outfielder Owen Caissie.
Caissie played for the Fieldhouse Pirates in the Canadian Premier Baseball League and also competed with the Junior National Team before heading to the pro rankings.
The outfielder was heavily scouted by the Padres, and the organization was excited to have him grow and develop after drafting him in 2020. On December 29th, 2020, Caissie’s career shifted in location, as he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in a multi-player transaction surrounding pitcher Yu Darvish. Caissie was in the Cubs organization from 2021 to 2025, making his debut last season at the Rogers Centre. He was recently involved in a high-profile offseason trade that sent him to the Miami Marlins.
The outfielder was developing at a quick rate, and he climbed the farm system with ease despite his younger age. His projections were remarkable, and he hit impressive numbers as he worked his way up the ladder. Caissie’s first full season in 2021 involved two clubs and two leagues, where he amassed a .302 batting average, .434 on-base percentage, and hit seven home runs while driving in 29 RBIs.
This was his icebreaker. Fast-forward to 2023, his at-bats tripled, resulting in 22 home runs and 84 RBIs.  In 2024, the lefty-batter spent the entire campaign in Triple-A, posting a .278/.375/.472 slash line with 19 home runs and a .848 OPS. He earned the Randy Echlin Award from the Canadian Baseball Network for being the top Canadian position player in the minors.

2025

Caissie almost repeated his season in 2024, carrying on a great offensive display with Triple-A Iowa. He began 2025 in Triple-A again after an injury in Spring Training kept him on the sidelines instead of competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster. Despite this late start, Caissie pushed the envelope for a promotion right away. Caissie finished his Triple-A stint with 370 at-bats, 106 hits, 22 home runs, and 55 RBIs.
Defensively, Caissie is not questionable at all. He spent most of his innings on the right side of the field, starting in 69 games. The Canadian prospect worked 582 innings, finishing with a .983 fielding percentage.
Caissie proved that he was MLB-ready, especially with his bat. Although he didn’t get to showcase too much of it with the Cubs, he will now have the opportunity to prove that he can be an everyday player in a new city and organization.

Looking ahead to 2026

From Chicago to Miami, Florida, Caissie is now the new guy, but a proven one. The Cubs knew what they had, and Miami knew what they were getting. The Marlins clearly want to be a contender, and this is their first step to doing so.
Caissie brings versatility and offensive threat to the lineup; he’s also a reliable defender. The Canadian outfielder should not have a problem earning a starting spot in South Florida. What will solidify this is Caissie’s spring training performance, as the outfielder is currently on track to lock up a spot on the Opening Day roster.
Even prematurely, Caissie’s performance at the World Baseball Classic could be a precursor to his initial spring evaluation. He will represent Team Canada in this tournament, his second time suiting up at the event.
