On Thursday, another pitcher in the Toronto Blue Jays organization earned a promotion to a higher level within the minor leagues.
Right-hander Jack Nedrow was elevated from Single-A Dunedin to High-A Vancouver after appearing in five games with the Jays. The 23-year-old was signed to a minor league contract by the Blue Jays on May 11 after spending time in Independent Baseball after wrapping up his collegiate career with the University of South Florida.
Through five games (two starts) with the Jays this season, Nedrow went 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 24 innings pitched. While Nedrow hasn’t recorded a high strikeout rate – only 19 over his 24 frames – the right-hander has held teams to a .217 average against, and shown strong control with only six walks this year.
While only five of Nedrow’s outings have been starts, he has tossed at least three innings in each of the appearances, showing his ability to provide length no matter when he enters a game. In both of Nedrow’s starts, he lasted six innings and allowed only four hits in each of the two outings.
In Nedrow’s final appearance with the Jays on June 5, during a 9-0 win against the Daytona Tortugas, he recorded his first career save by closing out the final three frames. Nedrow turned in a pitching line of 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, while topping out at 93.9 MPH with his fastball.
After joining the professional ranks later than many other players, Nedrow impressed in his first test as he began his climb through the Blue Jays’ system. Nedrow will now join a Vancouver Canadians pitching staff that includes standout arms, Nolan Perry and Johnny King.
Other Notes…
Carson Messina pitched in his first game with Dunedin on Thursday night after earning a promotion from the FCL Blue Jays, where he opened the season.
Messina turned in a pitching line of 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, and tossed 55 pitches (31 strikes) to work through his outing. The 20-year-old averaged 94.1 MPH on his four-seam fastball and maintained his velocity throughout his outing as he sat at 93.4 MPH while in his third inning of work.
After posting a 1.69 ERA over his five appearances with the FCL Blue Jays to open the season, Messina will carry a 3.86 ERA into his second appearance, which should come at some point next week with the D’Jays.
2025 first-round draft pick, and Blue Jays number one-ranked prospect JoJo Parker went 1-for-4 during the Jays’ 10-5 loss against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels on Thursday. Parker’s lone hit of the evening came during the first inning on a line-drive single to center field.
The 19-year-old has gotten off to a strong start in his first professional season. Through 50 games, Parker is batting .232 with four home runs and 26 RBIs and has reached base at a .376 clip. While on base, Parker has flashed his speed, picking up 16 steals on 19 attempts to open the year.
