The Toronto Blue Jays made a roster move earlier today, promoting right-hander Luis Frías from triple-A Buffalo to the active roster. The Jays optioned left-hander Brandon Eisert to the minors in a corresponding move.
Frías joined the Blue Jays on August 10th as a waiver claim after the Arizona Diamondbacks designated him for assignment. Before the designation, he rode the options bus between the minors and the Diamondbacks relief corps dating back to the 2021 season and pitched to a 6.55 ERA through 54 outings with a 7.8 K/9.
The Dominican product cracked the Dbacks bullpen to start the season but landed on the IL in mid-April after allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs through 6 1/3 innings – allowing runs in four of his seven outings. While his 4.92 FIP was a better indicator of his 9.95 ERA through the sample size, he struggled mightily with his command, allowing four free passes.

After recovering from shoulder inflammation, Frías was optioned back to triple-A Reno where he remained until being DFA’d. With the Aces, Frías authored a 4.88 ERA through 21 outings, collecting four saves and one hold with 24 strikeouts compared to 11 walks.
Since joining the Jays triple-A affiliate, Frías has found improved results pitching in the International League. Through 8 1/3 innings, the 26-year-old has allowed just six hits and four walks with 11 strikeouts while keeping a clean track record in terms of earned runs. Working with a cutter, four-seam fastball, and a slider, Frías has held opponents to a .182 average and a .273 BABip since joining the Blue Jays.
Heading down to triple-A is Eisert, who has also been riding the options bus for Toronto this season. Through just two outings, the left-hander has allowed five hits and three earned runs through 4 2/3 innings.
