If this was his final rehab outing, Toronto Blue Jays right-handed Yimi García finished in style.
On Tuesday, García made his third outing in Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons and entered to open the top of the fourth and struck out all three batters he faced during the Bisons’ 9-5 win over the Charlotte Knights.
García opened his frame by striking out Junior Perez swinging on a 95.1 MPH fastball before setting aside Dustin Harris swinging on a 90.6 MPH slider. The last batter García faced on the night was Caden Connor, who García made quick work of, requiring four pitches to get the Knights’ first baseman swinging on a 93.5 MPH fastball. The Bisons scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to give García the win.
The 35-year-old required only 13 pitches (nine strikes) during his lone inning of work. García averaged 94.4 MPH with his fastball and topped out at 96.6 MPH with his fastball, giving the look of a pitcher who is ready to return to the Blue Jays’ bullpen.
García opened his rehab in early May with the FCL Blue Jays before being shut down after experiencing elbow soreness after one outing. García returned there on May 29 for one outing, then was moved to Single-A with Dunedin for two outings before shifting to Triple-A with the Bisons.
During García’s seven minor league rehab outings, he is 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP across six innings. Since moving to the Bisons for three games, García has posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.88 WHIP while striking out five batters over his 2.2 innings pitched.
The right-hander’s last outing with the Blue Jays came on July 2, 2025, before he was placed on the 15-day injured list. García was transferred to the 60-day IL three days later before undergoing right elbow surgery in September.
In 22 games with the Blue Jays last season, García went 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. The Dominican product struck out 25 batters over his 21 innings while holding opposing teams to a .171 average.
The recovery process has been a long buildup for García, but after Tuesday’s outing, he is set to join the Blue Jays on their road trip with the sense that his next outing will be at the MLB level.
