Free agent relief pitchers Ken Giles and Amir Garrett, a pair of former
Blue Jays, are set to participate in a Pro Day this Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona, with professional scouts in attendance.
They will be joined by two other MLB pitchers who are also free agents in Scott Alexander and Kyle Nelson, both of whom pitched in the majors in 2025. They will all pitch a live at-bat during the event, with Nelson throwing a bullpen as well.
The event will be hosted by Dynamic Sports Training, who, per their
Instagram and
X pages, also work or have worked with
Justin Bruihl and Braydon Fisher, two Blue Jays relievers from last year.
Giles, 35, was last affiliated with an MLB team during the 2024 season in the Atlanta Braves organization. He spent 2025 in the Mexican Baseball League as a member of Leones de Yucatan and Piratas de Campeche, both of which were in the South Division. Through 20 out of the bullpen between those teams, Giles owned a 5.89 ERA with an 11.3 K/9, but he also posted a rather high 7.4 BB/9.
Giles was acquired by the Blue Jays during the 2018 season, and after finishing that year on a high note, he posted one of the best seasons of his career in 2019. During that campaign, he pitched to a 1.87 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 14.1 K/9, and 23 saves. He was a potential piece to be moved at the trade deadline that season as well, but an injury to his right elbow dissuaded teams from making a deal.
After hitting
free agency after the 2020 season, Giles has pitched in the Mariners, Giants, Dodgers, and Braves organizations before pitching in Mexico last season.
Garrett, on the other hand, signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays ahead of the 2025 season.
Unfortunately, he suffered an injury during spring training that kept him on the IL until mid-July. He made a total of five
appearances with Triple-A Buffalo, allowing three earned runs over 5 1/3 frames with four walks and six strikeouts. He would be released by the Bisons on August 1st.
