Ryan Borucki has found a new home.

The 31-year-old reliever agreed to a minor-league contract with the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, per the club’s release, as relayed by MLB.com’s Scott Merkin. The deal also includes an invitation to spring training, where the left-handed hurler will compete for a bullpen job after splitting last season with the Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates. 

Borucki, signed as a minor-league free agent by the Blue Jays in late August, elected free agency shortly after the 2025 post-season concluded in November. He finished last season at triple-A Buffalo after being outrighted off the 40-man roster. 

Returning for his second tenure with the organization, Borucki tossed 4.1 scoreless innings across four relief appearances with Toronto, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out five. He made his final outing against the Baltimore Orioles on Sep. 14, compiling two innings of shutout ball with a pair of hits and one walk allowed, recording one strikeout. 

The veteran southpaw’s initial stint with the Blue Jays spanned five seasons from 2018-22 before being traded to the Seattle Mariners, where he spent the remainder of the ’22 season. He then logged two-and-a-half seasons with the Pirates — who released him last summer — before returning to the franchise that selected him in the 15th round nearly 14 years ago. 

The White Sox’s bullpen, which already features another former Blue Jays reliever, Brandon Eisert, was among baseball’s worst last season — ranking in the bottom-third of the sport in ERA (4.28), FIP (4.47), strikeout-minus-walk rate (11.3 per cent) and fWAR (11.5).

Thus, the hope for Borucki is that he’ll be able to serve as valuable depth and ultimately return to the majors next season.
