Friday night saw the Toronto Blue Jays pull out a big win thanks to a three-run homer from Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and a big pitching performance from Jose Berrios.
Berrios’ performance stretched 90 pitches over seven innings seeing him strike out eight batters while allowing just five hits, no walks and no earned runs. Jordan Hicks and Jordan Romano took the eighth and ninth to close it out, and Vladdy’s aforementioned home run was the deciding factor.
Toronto got some help in the standings Friday, too. The Texas Rangers fell 12-3 to the Cleveland Guardians, the Houston Astros fell 4-2 to the Kansas City Royals, and the Seattle Mariners fell 6-3 to the LA Dodgers.
This afternoon, Chris “The Hound” Bassitt will take the mound for the Jays opposite Chris Sale.
