Another day, another stinker for the Blue Jays, who get blown out 10-1 by the San Francisco Giants, now having scored just one run in their last 33 innings and recording just seven hits in their last three games, now the worst stretch in franchise history.
If the Jays haven’t already hit rock bottom, this certainly feels like it. Let’s take a look at what happened in this game.
Kevin Gausman was on the mound for the Blue Jays, coming off a great rebound start against the New York Mets in which he went six innings, allowing just one run. Back in his old stomping grounds at Oracle Park, he wasn’t exactly treated to a welcome return. On the second pitch of the game, Heliot Ramos sent a ball deep to the right field gap for a triple, with the throw from the outfield being cut off and sent into San Francisco’s dugout, allowing Ramos to score for an early 1-0 Giants lead.
Gausman then put together two scoreless innings before Willy Adames brought home the second run of the night on a fielder’s choice double play, giving the Giants an early 2-0 lead. It was a small ball in the bottom of the fifth when Victor Bericoto scored on a double steal attempt with two outs, giving San Francisco a 3-0 advantage. Though the Jays’ bats are dreadful, they are also unable to execute in high-pressure situations defensively.
It only got worse for Gausman in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases before Bericoto drove home two more runs via a single, extending the Giants’ run total to five. Tommy Nance would enter the game and subsequently give up an opposite-field home run over the tall wall in right field to Ramos, breaking the game open 8-1 at that point for San Francisco.
Ramos had a career night, adding another home run in the bottom of the eighth off Adam Macko, this time a two-run shot, bringing the Giants to a 10-1 lead they would not relinquish. An ugly outing for the pitching staff all around, highlighted by Gausman’s five walks and four runs given up, now losing five straight decisions.
Landen Roupp was on the mound for the Giants, entering today’s contest with a 4.55 ERA on the season, coming off a terrible outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks in which he allowed six earned runs in just 2.2 innings pitched. Unsurprisingly, he found his groove against a pitiful Blue Jays offence, arguably pitching the best game of his young career.
The Jays entered tonight’s game on a 24-inning scoreless streak, with their last runs coming in the third inning of the first game against the Mariners in Seattle last Friday. Inevitably, that streak was extended to 29 innings, with Roupp cruising through his first five innings on incredible efficiency, mowing down Blue Jay bats left and right.

Kazuma Okamoto provided seemingly the only offence of the night, hitting his 20th home run of the season in the top of the sixth. Aside from this solo shot, the Jays picked up just two other hits on the night: singles from Ernie Clement and Nathan Lukes. Roupp would finish with eight innings of one-run ball, five strikeouts and two walks across 104 pitches.
It’s starting to become difficult to describe the Blue Jays drop off offensively from just a season ago. In their last 33 innings played, they’ve scored just one run and are showing zero signs of life at all. It is unfortunately not just one player going through a rough spell. The entire lineup has proven an inability to hit, and it just may cost them their chance at competing in 2026.
It will be a bullpen day Tuesday night for the second of a three-game set, with Spencer Miles likely to throw the bulk innings of the contest, coming off a fantastic outing in which he featured a fastball that consistently touched 99mph. Trevor McDonald goes for the Giants in a 9:45 pm EST start time, where the Blue Jays look to avoid their second consecutive series loss.
